Level 2 Table Officials can be deployed to local league, junior NBL and even senior NBL competitions up to WNBL Division One and NBL Division Two alongside Level 3 colleagues.
Expected duration: 8 hours (5 hours online modules, 1 hour theory exam, 2 hours scoresheet assessment).
Prerequisites: A Basketball England member, and have some basketball knowledge or be a Level 1 Table Official
Recommended minimum age: 16 years
Once you have signed up, candidates will receive access to the online learning by the end of the next working day.
You will need access to a laptop, computer or smart device to complete the online modules.
The course consists of modules which you can complete at your own pace. You are able to learn in your own time and can keep coming back to Learning Nexus as often as you like. The modules consist of:
THEORY EXAMINATION
Online theory examination with 25 multiple choice questions where you are required to achieve a 70% pass mark. You have 60 minutes to complete. There is no limit to the number of times you can complete the examination.
You will provided with a game video in the online modules and you are required to complete the full game scoresheet.
You should officiate a number of practice games in order to prepare yourself for your assessment games. It is beneficial to get feedback from these games from a qualified and licensed level 3 or higher table official or Table Official Coach.
Before officiating any practice games you are required to have a Basketball England Membership, pay for a table official licence and complete the eligibility requirements. If you are over 16 you will require a DBS check and to complete a safeguarding self-declaration. If you are over 18 you require both of these and in addition a safeguarding qualification. All the information you need to license as an official can be found here.
Learners should table officiate games where they can receive feedback from level 3 co-officials or a Table Official Coach in order to prepare themselves for their assessment games.
Only when the learner has completed the online modules, passed the examination, passed the scoresheet assessment and officiated a number of practice games should they attempt their 4 assessment games.
Assessments are full regulations games (4 in total) that are supervised either by the table official you officiate with (co-official) or a qualified table official who watches from the sideline.
This table official should be licensed and at least be a level 3 qualified table official or an approved BE Table Official Coach.
Two of the assessment games shall be completed as a scorer, and the other two assessment games shall be completed as a timer.
Games should ideally be full regulation (4 x 10 minute quarters, full court). It is possible to substitute two out of the four games, for equivalent length games in approved central venue leagues.
You have 12 months from signing up for the course to complete all elements including the assessment games.
Upon completion of the online modules, examination, practice scoresheet assessment and completing the 4 assessment games, you will be qualified and receive an e-certificate.
