Bristol Academy Flyers will host an all inclusive 3x3 tournament on the Spring Bank Holiday weekend. We will have competition running at the SGS WISE Campus all day on Sunday 26 May 2024. Categories are available for Under 13s, Under 15s, Under 17s, Under 19s, Recreational Men, Elite Men, Senior Women and Masters (Over 40s). The tournament will be held in memory of former player Matt Bromley, who was tragically killed in a car accident at the age of 23. Matt made a significant contribution to basketball in Bristol and Trowbridge and is greatly missed.
He grew up in Trowbridge and began playing basketball as a teenager at school. In 1996 he led his Clarendon College team to the England Schools National Finals and then went on to join the Trowbridge Hawks playing in the West of England Basketball Association (WEBBA) league, where he became one of the club’s most capable senior players.
After leaving Clarendon, Matt attended Bath University to study for a diploma in Sports Education & Coaching, playing a critical role in the University team’s success, helping them reach the British University Finals in 2004.
He went on to join the Flyers in 2005 to continue playing the game he loved, where he was a key part in the team that won the National League Division Three Championship in April 2006.
The tournament is an opportunity to pay our own tributes and respect to an outstanding friend, team-mate, player and coach.
Funds raised by the tournament will be donated to the Matthew Bromley Foundation, which is set up to help fund young talented athletes achieve their basketball aspirations.
The age group categories are based on player age group for the 2023/2024 season so players can compete in the same category that they were eligible for this season. Players must have been under the specified age as of 1 September 2023.
We will play by the standard FIBA 3x3 rules. The tournament is FIBA endorsed so all players must be registered on the play.fiba3x3.com platform and teams must enter the tournament by contacting us on 07764743724 and registering on the platform. Players will receive international 3x3 ranking points for participating.
Teams can consist of 3 or 4 players. The cost per team is £50. If players prefer to register as individuals we can accommodate this and match them to a team. The cost per individual is £25 per player as this involves more administration. All players will receive a tournament jersey to keep as part of their entry fee. There will be prizes for the winning team in each category. You can reserve your space by making payment via bank transfer to Ball Park Events, please get in touch for the account information.
