There are 15 awards available within each region, covering all aspects of basketball. After the nomination window has closed, regional winners will be picked for each award. From the regional award winners, three will be shortlisted to receive the national award. All members and organisations can apply and submit nominations for awards. Judgement is made based on quality of applications as opposed to the number of applications so be sure to get as much information in your submission as possible!
Below is the list of the awards that are available for individuals and organisations/clubs each year.
A coach that has helped bring young people into the game and/or helped inspire the next generation of young players with an engaging and fun approach to coaching. This coach will deliver modified versions of the game that match up with younger participants movement skills and competencies. The coach will provide you players with a great first touch point with the sport, putting them on the pathway to becoming lifelong players of the game.
Criteria:
A coach who has developed a culture within their club so players of all ages, abilities and experience levels can enjoy the many benefits of playing our great game. This coach has become a role model for other coaches within the club and created standards around caring for and developing basketball players at their club.
Criteria:
A coach who develops players for the talent pathway, recognized as "Player Development Coach of the Year," would be characterised by their exceptional ability to nurture young talent and prepare them for higher levels of competition.
This coach excels in identifying and refining the skills and potentials of athletes, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary technical abilities and mental toughness for advancement.
Their approach is holistic, focusing on both the physical and psychological development of the player, fostering resilience, sportsmanship, and a deep understanding of the game.
Criteria:
A Community Club that has created an environment which supports players of all ages, abilities and experience levels. This club offers basketball in a variety of ways and gives opportunities for all members of their local community to play. This club offers participants all the way from juniors to seniors and offers both formal and informal opportunities to access the game.
Criteria:
An organisation who has delivered Basketball England’s junior program for children aged 7-11, this organisation has created a fun, supportive and social environment for participants playing the game for the first time.
The participants have also benefited from the organisations coaches who have modified their coaching style and delivery to match up with the participants age and development.
Criteria:
A league who has delivered a high-quality competition, providing members of their community the opportunities to enjoy all the benefits of basketball in a safe, friendly and inclusive environment.
This league has provided players who are not at a National League level the chance to develop their skills in a suitable and enjoyable competitive environment.
Criteria:
An Education Institution that has developed a basketball program which has resulted in more students playing the game within school hours. Open to primary, secondary, college and higher education institutions.
This can include a school embedding basketball into their Physical Education curriculum or participating in Basketball England competitions.
A programme that has successfully engaged new participants to the game who may not typically play basketball. This initiative has involved delivering a non-competitive version of basketball which has engaged a new range of participants who were not previously involved with the sport.
An individual that has helped to improve the standard of officiating through delivering an exceptional level of table officiating throughout the season. This official has set standards around knowledge, professionalism and preparation for their peers.
They have continuously shown an eagerness to develop their own ability and experiences, mentor others and provide an excellent experience for players of the game.
Criteria:
A referee who has made the most significant contribution basketball officiating during the season. This referee has continuously show a level of professionalism and acted as a role model for other referees.
This referee has shown a commitment to improving themselves over the years and is continually looking for ways to learn and improve.
Criteria:
A statistician that has exceeded their requirements to help grow the game and roles of statisticians. This statistician has created a set of standards for their colleagues to follow and showcased the vital role statisticians have within the sport.
Examples of this are excellent approach to work, mentoring of others and/or assisting in other areas of the game in addition to their own.
Criteria:
This award will be given to a female who has supported Basketball England in their vision to have more females playing the sport, the winner will be a role model for other females involved in the sport and someone who has inspired for females to play the game.
This female will be an advocate for getting young girls within their community active and helping them develop a love and appreciation for basketball.
Criteria:
An individual that has provided outstanding digital coverage of the game. This individuals work has resulted in a higher level of engagement and interest of Basketball England’s programmes, competitions or local talent.
Examples of this are action/games photos, informative use of social media and/or innovative use of technology.
An individual who has given up their free time to help make a lasting impact and grow the game. This individual’s commitment to the sport has resulted in players, coaches and officials having quality basketball experiences, they have continually gone over and above to ensure the game continues to prosper and young people are able to enjoy all the benefits of playing the sport.
Volunteering can be through supporting a clubs or leagues administration, being a part of a clubs committee, coaching or officiating.
An individual who is visible in their club in supporting a safeguarding and person central environment and who gives up their free time to help champion a safer sporting culture.
This individual has gone over and above in ensuring that everyone under the clubs umbrella feels safe and understands the protocol to follow if an incident was to occur.
Criteria:
This is a prestigious award that can only be won once by an individual and recognises the lifelong commitment to the sport.
These individuals have contributed at all levels of the game, from grassroots, all the way through to elite and international, as well as covering various different roles within the sport. Winners of the award include coaches, players, referees, table officials, league organisers, area registrars and many more.
