Formerly the British Basketball League (BBL), which began in 1987, Super League Basketball (SLB) represents the highest level of the professional game in the UK.

Likewise, the Womens’ British Basketball League (WBBL) was founded in 2014 with the aim of creating a high-quality professional women’s league in the UK and now also falls under the same name after SLB confirmed unification of Great Britain’s elite men’s and women’s leagues under one banner in September 2024.

Following a unanimous vote by shareholders, both the men’s and women’s elite competitions now adopt SLB branding and work together to unlock the sport’s considerable potential across the country.

The SLB season contains a Championship (regular season), Cup, Play-Offs and Trophy, crowning various champions of the various competitions throughout a season spanning from September to May.

Both leagues are run and administered by a separate entity external to Basketball England, making them a key stakeholder in helping to develop the sport across England and beyond.

With franchises spread across the UK, you can find out more about both leagues using the buttons below.
