With the 2018/19 campaign now underway, the NBL department is pleased to announce the playoff structures for the current season.
Following significant feedback, this season’s playoff schedules are being released much earlier than their usual January slot to give teams more notice of what to expect from the post season. There have also been some changes made to expand the playoffs in some competitions, meaning more teams have a shot at qualification. In turn, this should ensure that more meaningful games are played late into the year as multiple teams continue to battle for a playoff place.
“Following feedback from our clubs, the play-off structures are being announced earlier than the usual and we hope this will be a welcome change,” said Basketball England’s Senior Delivery Manager (Game) Gail Richards. “By expanding certain playoff structures, we believe more teams will still have a reason to keep pushing hard right up to the end of their season. This change is a part of a programme of improvements regarding how the NBL is run.”
An additional round has been added to the NBL Division Four playoffs, meaning more teams will make the post season across the various divisions. Likewise, in the Jnr. NBL, an extra round has also been added so that top Conference teams can be involved in the playoffs, and so that Premier teams have more spots to fight for during the regular season.
