NBL Division Two Recap - Week 4 (19/20 October 2019)

It's been another great weekend of action in both the Northern and Southern Conferences of D2M. We'll take a look at all nine games from this weekend to find out how the action played out.

Game of the Week

Derbyshire Arrows 97 - 98 Derbyshire Spartans

There was an incredible finish to our Game of the Week as Derbyshire Spartans pipped local rivals Derbyshire Arrows by the narrowest of margins.

Ronald Oberia scored the go-ahead basket for the visitors on the buzzer to seal the win, cancelling out a Joseph Baugh triple for the Arrows which splashed with just 5 ticks remaining.

For the Spartans, Oberia finishied with 20 points as Jordan Santiago top scored with 30 to go with 22 more from Ashley Ugo. Baugh also scored 30 in the contest alongside a huge 19 boards, supported by former Sheffield Shark Eddie Brownell's 27 points and 16 from George Brownell.

Elsewhere in D2M

Bristol Flyers II held Sheffield Hallam Sharks to just nine 3rd quarter points on the way to a 72 - 63 winPasquale Landolfi top scored for Bristol with 16 points, Jacob Cauthorn had a 24 point, 13 rebound double-double in reply for the Sharks.

Jake Eynon recorded a quality stat line as Ipswich saw off Sussex Bears 88 - 78. After some recent late game heroics to sink Southwark in the National Cup, Eynon dropped 34 points in a 12/19 shooting performance as he played all 40 minutes. Ipswich captain Luke Mascall-Wright also had a solid outing, recording a 26 point, 12 rebound double-double. James Felstead had 20 points in reply for the Bears.

University of Chester grabbed their first win of the season, beating Bristol Hurricanes 80 - 70 in the North West. UoC enjoyed 15 points from former BBLer Phil Kelly-Brandreth as Ebehireme Omole, Reiss Faure-Daley and Joseph Kincaid all scored 14 each for the hosts.

BC Medelynas used a 29 - 9 opening quarter to beat Team Solent Kestrels II in a rematch of last season's D3 playoff final. With a final score of 84 - 70 to the hosts, the result pushes Medelynas to 2 - 0 on the season.

There was to be no winning start to 2019/20 for London Greenhouse Pioneers as they fell in Essex to the Rebels 93 - 76. Taking the 3rd quarter 33 - 12 positioned the Rebels to seal a comfortable win and move to 3 - 0.

There was better luck for London Westside as they went 1 - 0 with a 103 - 81 victory over Greenwich Titans. Captain Arturo Noha Pascual had 36 points for the Titans but was the only player to make it to double digits as Greenwich remain without a win in 2019/20.

Manchester had multiple opportunities to beat Myerscough but came up short on all of them in an eventual 65 - 63 loss. Within the game's final minute, Richard Bell had a pair of jumpers and Luke Gordos attempted a triple without success, leaving Myerscough to head out of town with the W. Talented young forward Franklin Agu recorded a 20 point, 15 rebound double-double for Myerscough, Bell and Andre Gayle both scored 15 for Magic.

Finally, Team Birmingham had to endure a long drive back down the country following an 86 - 67 loss in the North East against Team Newcastle University. Being held to just 20 1st half points proved to be fatal to Birmingham's chances of success despite scoring 34 points in the 4th quarter.
