With all our top leagues in action this weekend, there are five Player of the Week honours up for grabs across the NBL and WNBL. Let's find out who won our awards for week 7, and congratulations to all the players chosen!
Our first winner of the week is Lloyd Williams from RCT Gladiators as he collects the NBL Division 3 award!
With RCT currently 3-0 in the South West division, Williams helped to keep that record intact last weekend as he dropped 35 points to push Glamorgan to a 99-54 win against Bognor.
"I would like to thank Basketball England for this prestigious award, it is a great honour to be recognised," said Williams.
"But, it is a team game and without my teammates and coach I couldn’t play. As a team we have a great emphasis on team work and working as a unit."
In WNBL Division Two, exciting young prospect Faye Endean has bagged our Player of the Week award!
After impressing at U16 level, Endean recently made the step up to Solent's D2W side and has handled the transition seamlessly. After a 30 point performance for the Kestrels as part of a 81-56 win over Cardiff Celts, the GB age group hopeful continues to go from strength to strength.
“I’m really proud of our team for winning I feel as though it was really well deserved. We all made the effort to make the extra pass to get everyone involved and we played as a unit on defence," Endean said.
"I personally tried to create opportunities for my team mates to score and focused on getting rebounds for the team.”
As Ipswich continue their good form in the Southern Conference, Luke Mascall-Wright has been named D2M Player of the Week.
Mascall-Wright was in excellent form as Ipswich beat London BC Medelynas 83-67, scoring 27 points to go with nine rebounds, two assists and three blocks.
"This game was always going to be tough, against a physical opposition, and we knew we had to do the basics well to grind out a win," said the Ipswich captain, who had an efficiency rating of 34.
"As a team we defended well and shared the ball consistently."
As she continues her stunning 2019/20 campaign, Ipswich' Harriet Welham has been named our WNBL Division One Player of the Week for the 3rd time this season.
After receiving the award in Week 2 and Week 4, Welham was once again on fire this past weekend as she scored 32 points, adding 10 rebounds, two assists and five steals. The 38 efficiency rated performance would help Ipswich beat Bristol Flyers 79-59 and move to 5-2 in the process.
As always, Welham was quick to share the spotlight with her team mates upon receiving the award: "It's always an honour to win this award, but we are a team and I think our team deserves this award.
"The girls were brilliant this weekend, everyone played their part in what was a fantastic team performance."
After helping Reading to win their sixth game in a row, Nick Richards is our NBL Division One Player of the Week.
The talented American guard put up 32 points against Leicester to go with six rebounds, four steals and a trio of assists. Leicester struggled to find a way to slow Richards down, eventually falling to a 82-67 defeat.
"It’s an honour to receive Player of the Week and coming off a great team win," Richards exclaimed after receiving the accolade.
"This award wouldn’t have been possible if it wasn’t for my teammates and coaching staff, not only having each other’s back but putting me in positions that allow me to get Player of the Week.
"This is a fun team to play with and we’re growing as time goes on, but I know we have a lot more to accomplish.”
