Leicester Warriors 67 v 73 Loughborough Riders

In an extremely close affair played out at Braunstone Leisure Centre, the Leicester Warriors took a narrow loss in their final home game of the season, as Loughborough opened their double-header with a vital win. The hosts led for the majority of the contest, with their largest advantage coming in the second quarter when they opened up a nine point gap, before getting the fourth period started with just a four point cushion. Martyn Gayle got the scoring underway in the final stanza, but the Riders quickly went on a 10-0 spurt which gave them their first lead of the game at 52-56. Taylor Johnson responded to stop the bleeding, before Blaize Sagna and Jonas Dieterich hit back-to-back triples to give the visitors their largest lead of the contest with the score at 54-62.
Another jumper from Johnson followed a Pak Chingombe lay-up to bring things back with four points; just over four minutes remaining on the clock. Loughborough stretched their lead once again, before Lucien Cristofis and Dieterich maintained the Riders' double digit advantage heading into the final minute or so. Johnson had a short five point run to make things 67-72, before Sagna kept his cool at the line to seal the win. The victory saw Loughborough improve to 18-7 and clinch the third seed, while the loss meant Leicester had a nervy wait with their post-season hopes now in the hands of results elsewhere.
Lucien Cristofis led the Riders' charge with 19 points and five rebounds, while captain Jonas Dieterich added 16 points and three rebounds. Hosana Kitenge added a near double-double of 15 points and eight rebounds, while Alex Roberts chipped in eight points, three rebounds and two assists. Blaize Sagna came off the bench for seven points, four rebounds and two assists in his first major minutes for Coach Mark Jarram's Division One side. Leicester were led by Taylor Johnson's 19 points, seven rebounds and two steals, an effort which included timely baskets down the stretch, while Martyn Gayle came off the bench to add 14 points in support. Skipper Carl Pearson contributed 11 points, two rebounds and two assists, while big man Elhji Jabby finished with 10 points and four rebounds.

Team Newcastle 73 v 88 Nottingham McDonalds Hoods

A tough season for Team Newcastle came to end on their home floor with a loss to Nottingham, as the East Midlands' side opened their double-header with an impressive performance. Despite falling just short of a spot in the post-season in the debut campaign in NBL Division One, the Hoods started the final weekend of their season on a high picking up the road win in the North East, building momentum into their final game of the season in front of their home fans at the Wildcats Arena. The Hoods led throughout in this one, heading into the final stanza with a 52-68 advantage. Able to end any notion of a comeback from Newcastle, Coach Ryan Westley's squad kept their hosts at arms length to take the result.

Thames Valley Cavaliers 87 v 99 Worthing Thunder

In the first of the two matchups that would decide the destination of the NBL Division One title this campaign, Worthing did their job to take the title race to the final day of the season. A road win for the Thunder saw them improve to 22-4 on the season, a mark that would need to be matched by Team Solent on Sunday afternoon for the Kestrels to claim the regular season silverware. An explosive start to this pivotal encounter at Uxbridge College saw a high octane start to the game as Worthing poured in 30 points in the opening stanza. The Cavaliers led early on, getting the best of the early exchanges, but the road team led by the end of the first and would not relinquish their advantage despite Coach Robert Banks' and his squad's best efforts.
After Aiden Saunders cut the deficit to two points to start the second quarter, Worthing unleashed a run of 15 points unanswered to take a convincing lead. It took until the end of the third quarter for Thames Valley to muster their comeback, trimming the gap to five points with a 16-10 run after seeing the Thunder take a 21 point lead - their largest of the game. Coach Josh Goddard's Worthing side quickly regained their composure to reel off a 15-1 run to build a definitive gap down the stretch. The Riders' win combined with the Cavalier loss ends Thames Valley's hopes of leapfrogging Loughborough for the third seed, meaning the West London squad will host Derby in the first round before a potential road trip to the league champions in the playoff semi-finals.
With just eight points coming off the bench for the Thunder, the visitors' starters posted some gaudy number in this one - led by 25 points, five rebounds and four steals from Jorge Ebanks. Zaire Taylor provided ample support with 23 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Alex Owumi finished with 21 points, seven rebounds and two steals. Tom Ward chipped in 12 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Brendan Okoronkwo rounded out the double digit scoring starters with 10 points, five rebounds and two assists. Abdoulaye Sylla had a dominant scoring performance for the Cavs, shooting 12-18 from the field on his way to 27 points, eight rebounds and three assists, while Martelle McLemore added 19 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two steals. Aiden Saunders rounded out the double figure scorers with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Charles Acquah-Davis came off the bench to chip in eight points, knocking down two three-pointers. Bernard Hehetro pulled down 12 rebounds to go with seven points, while veteran guard Walid Mumuni finished with six points, eight rebounds and four assists.
Worthing Thunder maintained their pressure on Solent Kestrels with another road victory at 4 th place Thames Valley Cavaliers by 99 to 77.

Bradford Dragons 74 v 70 Barking Abbey Crusaders

With news of the Warriors' loss to Loughborough reaching West Yorkshire in time for their Saturday evening matchup with Barking Abbey, Coach Chris Mellor and his side headed into this one knowing the door remained ajar for the Dragons to engineer a late playoff push with two victories in their home double-header. The first of their home-and-home against the Crusaders got off to a cagey start as the two sides traded narrow leads, before the visitors took control with an 11-2 run close to the end of the first. Coach Lloyd Gardner's squad maintained their advantage throughout the second quarter, before the Dragons cut into the lead into the third and eventually overturned their visitor's edge.
The hosts entered the final stanza with a narrow two point cushion, but began the fourth with an 11-2 spurt that seemed to give them full control. The young Crusaders responded with another 11-2 run of their own to tie things up at 66-66, before Rafael Saipe hit a crucial jumper to end the deadlock. Barking came up empty on the next possession and had to send Saipe to the line to stop the clock, as the veteran guard kept his nerve to ice the game, giving Bradford a 70-66 lead. Nathaniel Powell got to the line and converted both to bring the deficit back to two points, 70-68 with nine seconds remaining. Saipe stepped back to the foul line with eight ticks left to drop in two more free throws looking to ice the result, but Chris Feeney responded with a lay-up after Coach Gardner drew up a smart play out of his final timeout. With the score at 72-70, Saipe stepped back up to the free throw line with ice in his veins as he made his fifth and sixth straight free throws in the final minute to clinch the 74-70 victory. The win keeps Bradford's post-season hopes alive, needing another big result on Sunday afternoon against Loughborough, while Barking Abbey close out their season with a loss that does not affect their survival in NBL Division One - clinched last weekend with a vital win over Newcastle.
Ricky Fetske led Bradford with an impressive double-double of 20 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks, while late game hero Rafael Saipe offered 17 points, four rebounds, nine assists and two steals. Andreas Lycoudis finished with 13 points, four assists and two steals, while Rihards Sulcs overcame a rough shooting night to still chip in an all-round of 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, four steals and two blocks. Nathaniel Powell had an eye-catching double-double of 16 points, 14 rebounds and two assists to pace the Crusaders, while he was supported by 12 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two blocks from Jonathan Brown. Tautvydas Mieliauskas came off the bench to offer nine points, while Ade Adebayo and Chris Feeney chipped in eight points apiece.

The final game of Saturday night's NBL Division One action saw Hemel Storm take to their home floor for the final time this season in hopes of picking up a win that would unseat Leicester in the eighth spot. In front of the Stormtroopers, Hemel got off to a great start in this one, pouring in 27 points in the opening stanza and building a 20 point advantage by the midpoint of the second quarter. A late spurt by the Blazers tied the period and ensured Hemel took just a 13 point lead into the half-time interval, a lead which would be gradually reduced as the second half got underway. Having chipped away at the deficit, Derby trailed 70-63 with a couple of minutes remaining in the third, but Coach Matt Shaw's side went on a 17-1 run either side of the third quarter break - capped off by a Jake Wesselingh triple which made it 71-80. Hemel made short runs in response, but the Blazers held them at arms length for the remainder of the contest, leading by double digits down the stretch to pick up an impressive comeback victory.
The resilient win for Derby was led by Isa Brandon's 24 points, 12 rebounds and three assists, while sharpshooting Jake Wesselingh knocked down four triples en route to a vital 18 point effort. Captain Oli Stanley added 17 points and six rebounds, while Tre-Shawn Wilford finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Kayne King offered a near double-double of nine points, 10 rebounds and three assists, while academy star Blake Bowman came off the bench for eight points, five rebounds and two steals. The season-ending loss for the Storm saw them paced by 25 points, 12 rebounds, three assists and two blocks from star big man TrayVonn Wright, while Bode Adeluola added 15 points, five rebounds and five assists. A trio of 11 point scorers offered support for Coach Robert Youngblood, with skipper Tom Adorian also chipping in five rebounds, two assists and two steals, Blayne Freckleton finishing with three rebounds and two steals, while Will Ashby came off the bench to hit the 11 point mark as well. Levi Noel did major work on the boards despite a difficult shooting night, pulling down 11 rebounds to go with four points and four assists.

Nottingham took to their home floor to complete their weekend double-header and their debut season in the NBL's top flight, in a momentous occasion that also marked veteran sharpshooter David 'Tintin' Watts' final action before he hangs up his boots to enjoy retirement. In front of a packed house at the Wildcats Arena, and facing tough opposition in top four Thames Valley, the Hoods really rose to the account to hit triple digits for just the third time this season and pick up an impressive win as they head into the off-season. The hosts led from gun to tape with convincing effort, using a dominant 35-17 second quarter to build the breathing room they needed to enjoy a 20+ point lead for most of the second half.
After an explosive 27 points in the first half, Delaney Powell finished with 40 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals to pace the Hoods, while US import forward Cole Welle supported with 25 points, nine points and six assists. In his final action in the NBL, David Watts was the only other double digit scorer for Nottingham as he finished with 10 points, four rebounds and two assists, while Luke Mitchell and Tom Ballantine chipped in nine points apiece. Coming up empty over their weekend double-header, the Cavaliers got 29 points, nine rebounds, four assists and three steals from Martelle McLemore, while Abdoulaye Sylla offered 26 points and 10 rebounds. Charles Acquah-Davis came off the bench for 10 points on 4-6 shooting, while Walid Mumuni finished with nine points and two assists.

Essex Leopards 67 v 85 Team Solent Kestrels

After the Thunder's road win at Thames Valley on Saturday evening which pushed the title race to the final day of the regular season, all eyes were on the Brentwood Centre to see if Team Solent could pick up the win they needed to claim the silverware. Despite putting up a solid fight throughout, the Kestrels led from tip to buzzer in this one - another commanding performance to add to their title resume. The closest the Big Cats got it in the second half was when Lee Hodges knocked down two free throws to cut the lead to 50-54, but Travis Charles responded with a six point personal run answered, as Team Solent ended the third on an 11-2 run. Having re-established their double digit, the Kestrels never looked back, as Coach Matt Guymon and his side stretched their advantage in the closing stages to pull off an impressive title-sealing victory.
US import forward Travis Charles exploded for 33 points, 14 rebounds, two assists and two steals to lead the newly crowned champions, while captain Louie Kirkman added 15 points, seven rebounds and two assists. Herm Senor II finished with 13 points, eight assists and two steals, while Elliott Dadds chipped in 11 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Nick Lewis came off the bench to contribute eight points in limited minutes, while Tayo Oyefusi did important work on the boards with 10 rebounds to go with five points and three assists. Asante Sandiford led the Big Cats in the loss with 18 points and seven rebounds, while skipper Sam Newman supported with 16 points, seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks. Big man Lee Hodges pulled down 11 rebounds to go with six points and three blocks, while Findlay Wood and Chuck Duru each added nine points.

Bradford Dragons 79 v 82 Loughborough Riders

A narrow loss on their home floor in the Dragons' Den saw Bradford's post-season hopes come crashing down, not getting the result they needed to usurp Leicester for the eighth seed. It was Loughborough who spoiled the Dragons' party - holding off a second half comeback to pinch the points in the closing stages, as the Riders head into the playoffs on a high with their 19-7 record. Bradford got the better of the early exchanges in this one, before Loughborough ended the first on a 14-5 run that gave them control. The Riders' maintained their advantage right through to the middle of the third when Bradford unleashed an 18-3 run that spanned the third quarter break, taking their first lead since the opening minutes. A triple from Niall Harris with 2:33 on the clock saw Loughborough retake the lead at 76-77, setting up a tense final couple of minutes for the West Yorkshire crowd.
Harris followed up his long bomb with a layup to stretch the Riders' lead to three, before Rafael Saipe tied things up with a three-pointer of his own when there was just over a minute to play. A scrappy stretch saw both teams come up empty on the next couple of possessions, before Rihards Sulcs fouled Harris on a three with just 13 seconds remaining. The young Charnwood guard calmly stepped to the foul line to knock down all three free throws to give the Riders the 79-82 lead. Bradford went the length of the floor and saw Rafael Saipe's triple rim out, meaning the hosts had to foul Hosana Kitenge to stop the clock. The Sussex-native big man drew iron on both his attempts at the line, giving Saipe another chance to tie it up on the break, but his shot rimmed out once again as Loughborough snuck away with the win.
Late game hero Niall Harris led the Riders with 18 points, four rebounds and four assists, while Alex Roberts supported with 16 points and two assists. Yiannis Panaretakis came off the bench to add 12 points, four rebounds, while big man Hosana Kitenge finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds and two steals. Jonas Dieterich rounded out the double figure scorers with 10 points, five rebounds and two steals, while recent BUCS Championship Final MVP Lucien Christofis posted seven points, three rebounds and six assists.

Reading Rockets 95 v 85 Manchester Magic

The final game of the NBL Division One regular season saw Reading pick up a hard-fought victory against the relegation-bound Magic who made the Rockets work for the result. It was a big encounter for Reading's Danny Carter who played his final game in front of the Rockets fans at the 'Mead, as the veteran forward will hang up his boots after the Berkshire-based side's playoff run which begins on the road at Loughborough. Reading took control early on in this one, gradually building their lead throughout the first quarter as their advantage peaked at 18 points before the first stanza ended. The lead quickly grew to 20+ points in the second period, but the Magic weren't ready to roll over just yet. Coming out of the half with renewed fight, the North West squad started the third with a 7-0 run that cut the deficit to 13 points, before maintaining their better effort to go into the final stanza trailing 73-60. However, the lead would remain in double digits throughout the fourth, before Manchester finished on a 9-4 run that trimmed Reading's cushion to 10 points when the final buzzer sounded.
In his final game in front of the loyal Rockets fans, Danny Carter finished with a team-high 21 points, four rebounds, eight assists and two steals, while US import forward AJ Carr offered 19 points, nine rebounds, two assists and two steals. Sydney Donaldson added 13 points, six rebounds and six assists, while Tanner Kuehn came off the bench to match his output with 13 points and sex rebounds of his own. Trae Pemberton weathered a rough shooting night to chip in 10 points, five rebounds and three assists, while Adrian O'Sullivan added 10 points and two steals in limited minutes off the bench. Meanwhile, the Magic enjoyed a scoring explosion from Jonathan Barnes, as the US import big man led all scorers with 31 points and seven rebounds, supported by inside partner Richard Bell who had 18 points and 11 rebounds. Young forward Saul May came off the bench to add 13 points and three rebounds, while Ryan Lewis offered 10 points and four assists.

Reading will open up their WNBL Division One playoff campaign on the road after missing out on a top four finish with a final day loss against Team Solent. Having picked up a double-header of victories last weekend, the Rockets gave themselves a chance to grab home court advantage in the playoffs, but the Kestrels used a last second buzzer-beater to take the result and build momentum heading into the post-season. Having traded leads throughout the first half, Reading opened the third quarter with a 6-0 run to take a seven point lead, but Team Solent quickly responded with a 16-4 run to turn the game on its head. The Kestrels maintained their advantage until Paula Romero Tarrega tied it at 73-73 with a lay-up with just under five minutes to play. Solent jumped out in the lead once again, before Andrea Gomez De La Vara got fouled on a triple and hit two of three free throws to it again at 82-82 when 26 seconds remained. Earleesha Jackson and Monica Herranz De Antonio traded lay-ins for the score to remain tied, but Sonja Awuor-Otieno hit a jumper as time expired to break the deadlock and secure the win for the south coast squad.
Geena Gomez led Team Solent with 23 points, five rebounds and two assists, while Earleesha Jackson supported with 15 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and two steals. Andrea Kurkowski offered an all-round effort of 12 points, seven rebounds and six assists, while Krisztina Velkey matched her scoring output with 12 points of her own to go with five rebounds and two assists. Monica Herranz De Antonio paced Reading with 24 points, four rebounds, seven assists and three steals, while Andrea Gomez De La Vara had 17 points, three rebounds and four assists. Myerscough College 89 v 71 Greenwich Titans

Myerscough ended a debut regular season campaign in NBL Division Two with a solid home win over Greenwich, simultaneously ending the East London side's playoff hopes for this campaign. The Lancashire-based squad led from tip to buzzer in this one, producing a dominant display throughout as their lead grew and grew; peaking at 28 points during a dominant 28-10 second quarter from the hosts. A valiant effort from the travelling Titans cut the deficit to below 20 points down the stretch, but Myerscough held firm to limit the comeback as they improved to 10-10 on the year. Holding the head-to-head over London Greenhouse Pioneers who matched their record, Myerscough finished fifth and will head south to Sussex Bears in the playoffs, while Greenwich end the season just shy of a playoff spot in their first year at the NBL Division Two level.
Mate Okros led Myerscough with 22 points, 10 rebounds, four assists and two blocks, while Bradley Kaboza supported with 16 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals. Callan Low added 12 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Rayon Brown chipped in six points and eight assists off the bench. Ray Akpofure had yet another explosive performance for the Titans, leading the visitors with 35 points on 17-24 shooting, while adding nine rebounds. Arturo Noha-Pascual was the only other Greenwich player to reach double digits as he added 11 points, eight rebounds and two steals, while the trio of Robert Gellatly, Soren Schreiber and Ashley Thomas contributed seven points apiece.

Liverpool 85 v 73 London Greenhouse Pioneers

Liverpool Basketball Club utilised a dominant second quarter performance to outlast London Greenhouse Pioneers and complete a highly impressive undefeated league season, finished 20-0 on the campaign. The final piece to Liverpool's unbeaten puzzle didn't come without some struggle, as the hosts were only able to edge slightly ahead early on; while the Pioneers actually grabbed a slim in the second period after an Mbombo Yegba jumper made it 26-27. Coach Delme Herriman's side quickly responded and reeled off a 24-3 run over the next six minutes to lead by 20 and effectively put the game to bed. Greenhouse fought back late on with a 9-0 run that spanned the third quarter break, before smart play down the stretch trimmed the deficit to single digits for the first time since the second quarter. The comeback wasn't to be however, as David Ulph and Kenny Igunneye made their presence felt down the stretch to see Liverpool clinch the result in front of their home crowd and the Mayor!
Jack Hudson led all scorers with an impressive 29 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals, while Kenny Ogunneye posted a dominant double-double of 17 points, 17 rebounds and four steals. Mark Rangeley knocked down three triples en route to 16 points, two rebounds and five assists, while big man David Ulph chipped in 13 points and eight rebounds. Kyle Diaz paced the Greenhouse effort with 22 points, seven rebounds and three assists, with skipper Theo Deleligne finishing with a double-double of 17 points, 13 rebounds, three assists and two steals. Francesco Rinaldi chipped in 15 points, three rebounds and four assists, while Mbombo Yebga rounded out the double figure contributors with 14 points and seven rebounds.

Westminster Warriors 86 v 76 Derbyshire Arrows

Westminster Warriors will head into the post-season as NBL Division Two's second seed on a high, picking up their 14th win of the season in a contest that ended Derbyshire's slim hopes of a post-season appearance. The Patrons Cup champions brought their league campaign to a close with a hard fought win over the travelling Arrows, having to come from behind in the second half to claim the points after a rocky start to the game. After leading early on, the Warriors quickly fell behind as the second quarter began, with Derbyshire leading by double digits for much of the period. A quick run cut the deficit to five, before a 15-4 spurt gave Westminster their first lead of the second half, an edge which the hosts held until the final buzzer sounded - holding off a final push from the Arrows.
Player-coach Jon Johnson led Westminster with 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists and two steals, while Justin Hitchman matched his play-caller's scoring output with 20 points and seven rebounds. Tosin Oyelese rounded out the double digit scorers with 10 points, eight rebounds and two steals, while Florian Damptey pulled down eight rebounds to go with two points. George Brownell paced Derbyshire with 22 points and four rebounds, while Joseph Baugh finished with 21 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. Callum McKenzie was the only other major contributor with a double-double of 16 points, 13 rebounds and five assists, while Przemyslaw Milak came off the bench to add seven points and four rebounds.
London Westside 85 v 60 Ipswich

London Westside clinched the eighth and final post-season berth in NBL Division Two by separating themselves from the chasing pack at the foot of the table with a convincing performance that saw them lead throughout against Ipswich, building an advantage that peaked at 29 points. A dominant second quarter effort saw Westside pull off a 28-12 period, allowing the hosts to cruise in the second half as they took the all-important victory to improve to 7-12 on the year. Westside have clinched the final playoff spot after an exciting race for eighth down the stretch, earning a tough trip up to Liverpool in hopes of a distinctly unlikely first round playoff upset.
Donald Morris led all scorers with 20 points, three rebounds, five assists and seven steals, while Mansour Mbye added 14 points, 15 rebounds, five assists and six steals. Rounding out the double digit scorers was Levi Edwards with 10 points and two rebounds, while Santiago Leon, Abiodun Adedo and Zaid Amini chipped in eight points apiece. Ipswich's low-scoring effort was led by Ethan Price who had 12 points, nine rebounds and five steals, while Marvin Isebor came off the bench for 11 points, three rebounds and three assists. Veron Eze chipped in nine points and eight rebounds, while Blake Read captained the side with nine points, six rebounds and two assists.

East London All Stars 70 v 78 Sussex Bears

Bringing an end to the NBL Division Two regular season was a Sunday afternoon encounter at UEL Sportsdock which saw Sussex Bears take down the All Stars to avoid a three-way tie with Myerscough and Greenhouse in the race for fourth. The south coast squad secured home advantage in the first round of the post-season with a commanding performance where they held East London at arms length throughout. Leading by 12 heading into the second half, Sussex allowed Coach Dave Greenaway's side cut it to five, before rallying to extend the cushion back out to double digits once again. Holding another 12 point lead at 50-62 with 7:20 remaining in the game, the Bears were the recipients of a 10-2 run which brought things within four points, before a layup from Mark Manovan trimmed the deficit to just two points with 1:47 on the clock. Kyle Gouveia split a pair at the line to make it a one possession game at 70-73, but Cordaris Townes scored the final five points of the contest to seal it for Sussex.
Cordaris Townes' late game effort was a part of a 31 point performance, with the US import forward also adding 13 rebounds, three assists and three blocks. Tomas Seduikis supported with 19 points, eight rebounds and two assists, while James Felstead had 19 points and eight rebounds of his own to go with three blocks. The only other scorer for Coach Gary Smith's side was young SRWA guard Kayshaun Marratt who chipped in nine points and two rebounds off the bench. East London import big man Kyle Gouveia had 22 points and 17 rebounds to pace the All Stars, while Arif Sempala finished with 18 points, two rebounds and two assists. Jonathan James contributed 15 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals, while Mark Manovan came off the bench to add seven points and eight rebounds.
