Day 2 kicked-off with two games in the U15 Boys Competition, with the U15 England Boys facing Norway in Group A and the U14 Boys taking on Denmark White to continue their Group C campaign. The U15 Boys were in pretty good standings after going 2-0 on Friday, whilst the U14 Boys were looking for their first win of the tournament.
Despite yesterday’s success, coach Chris Bourne’s side got off to a poor start in the first half falling behind early to Norway with the score at 26 -19 at the end of the second quarter. The Boys continued to trail the Norwegians until making an incredible comeback in the 4th quarter, sparked by a 2-point field goal from Zak Moore to give them the lead. With momentum swinging their way, England capitalised, extending their advantage to take the game 51-40 and remaining undefeated (3-0) at the top of Group A. The win booked the Boys a place in the Semi Finals later that day.
The U14 Boys got off to another slow start in Group C as they found themselves down to Denmark White 25-17 going into half time. England then struggled to recover as they finished the game 48-33 falling to an 0-3 record in the group stage. The result would mean settling for the 9-12th place playoffs later on.
The U15 Girls entered their first game on Day 2 with an even record at 1-1 as they faced German side Berlin BBV in group F. The Girls got off to a good start going up 5 points in the first quarter and closing out the half 27-23 before extending their lead in the second half to eventually win 55-44 and top the group with a 2-1 record. The win meant the Brits would play their semi-final later on.
The U14 Girls were in search of their first win in Copenhagen as they took on Wales U16 on Day 2. However, the struggles for Coach Riki Broadmore’s side continued as they suffered another tournament defeat, falling to Wales U16 55-45. The loss meant the Girls would play in the 9-12th place playoffs later in the day.
With the group stages complete, the U15 Boys and U15 Girls both advanced to the Semi Finals having both topped their groups. The U15 Boys would face Belgium side Topschoolsport VBL whilst the U15 Girls took on Hungarian side Csata DSE. For the England U14 squads, both groups had to settle for the 9-12th place playoffs, with the Boys taking on Iceland White and the Girls facing Scotland U16.
In the U14 Boys 9-12 Playoff game, Iceland jumped out to an early lead taking the first quarter 31-20. The lead was too much for coach Kelson Dickson’s side to recover from, as they continued their woes into the second half with the final score ending 59-44 in favour of the Icelanders. With the result, England will now face Norway on Sunday to decide who finishes in 11/12th place.
