WNBL Division One recap - Week 11 (7/8 December 2019)

Four games made up week 11 in D1W, with Anglia Ruskin claiming a big win at the top of the standings against Reading. Thames Valley, Team Solent Kestrels and Nottingham Trent University also enjoyed victories, here's a quick recap of the weekend's scores.

Game of the Week

Team Solent Kestrels 82 - 61 Loughborough Riders

Solent used a steady stream of offence to beat Loughborough 82-61, moving to 7-2 on the season in the process.

Both teams played out an even contest in the first half, with multiple lead changes. Solent gradually asserted their will onto the game, particularly in the 2nd half, before winning the 4th quarter comfortably to push the margin of victory past the 20 point mark.

Kristine Karpova put on a show for the NBL cameras as she scored a game high 20 points for the Kestrels, with Krisztina Velkey adding 17 more. Alex Baker enjoyed 17 points in reply for the Riders and Ashante Richards chipped in 15 points and five rebounds.

Elsewhere in D1W

36 points from former D1W Player of the Week Madeline Homoly helped Anglia Ruskin retain their top spot in the standings following a tight 78-74 win over Reading Rockets. Reading did hold a four point lead going into the 4th quarter but the hosts came roaring back down the stretch. Sitota Gines Espinosa top scored for visitors with 22 points.

After starting the season 0-5, Nottingham Trent University have now won two of their last three games following an 83-74 victory over BA London Lions II. Despite their 0-8 record, the Lions led this one at the half before falling away in the 3rd quarter. Brahe Ashton had 23 points for NTU, with Lisa Greenaway scoring a game high 26 points to go with 8 boards for BA.

Finally, Thames Valley grabbed a straight forward road win against Southwark, coming out on top 71-34. The hosts were held to just seven 2nd half points as TVC played some lights out D, with Kelsi McNamara top scoring once again with 13 points.

Up next

Next weekend represents the final D1W action before the mid-season break, with four games taking place. 

Ipswich host Reading Rockets in a 3rd plays 4th encounter, Bristol Academy Flyers entertain bottom side BA London Lions II, and leaders Anglia Ruskin welcome Southwark Pride.

The only other game is a Midlands derby as Nottingham Trent University try to extend their recent good form, they travel to Loughborough to play the Riders.
