New advice was issued by the Government on March 16 advising against "non-essential" travel and contact with others to fight coronavirus.
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said on Monday people should work from home and avoid pubs, club, theatres where possible, as part of a range of stringent new measures.
Anyone in the same house as someone who has a cough or fever will also have to isolate for 14 days, he said.
All elderly and vulnerable people must also begin self-isolating within days.
Everyone should avoid gatherings and crowded places, such as pubs, clubs and theatres
Everyone should work from home if they can
All "unnecessary" visits to friends and relatives in care homes should cease
People should only use the NHS "where we really need to" - and can reduce the burden on workers by getting advice on the NHS website where possible
By next weekend, those with the most serious health conditions must be "largely shielded from social contact for around 12 weeks"
The UK is now "three weeks" behind Italy - the worst-hit country in Europe
If one person in any household has a persistent cough or fever, everyone living there must stay at home for 14 days
Those people should, if possible, avoid leaving the house "even to buy food or essentials" - but they may leave the house "for exercise and, in that case, at a safe distance from others"
Schools will not be closed for the moment
There will be further updates to follow.
What are the signs and symptoms?
The symptoms include cough, shortness of breath and a high temperature. Given these are common symptoms with other illness, this makes identifying coronavirus difficult.
How do we reduce the spread?
To reduce spread, ensuring regular washing of hands with soap and water is key.
Hand sanitiser could be used if soap and water is not available.
If coughing or sneezing, do this into a tissue and dispose of immediately following by re-washing hands.
Do not get too close to people who appear unwell.
Avoid travelling to countries that are high risk due to high incidence of the infection.
If an individual suspects coronavirus what should be done?
If an individual suspect they may have coronavirus, they should avoid going to hospital or a clinic to avoid possible spread.
They should self-isolate for 14-days, even with mild symptoms.
