Basketball England are delighted to announce the appointment of Dr Dave Parry as the new Chair for the East Region.
Currently working as Director of Sport at the University of Essex, Parry has enjoyed an extensive career in sport having completed a PhD in Sports Medicine and he's worked as an applied Sports Scientist and Lecturer in sport and exercise science, as well as a coach within the British Triathlon World Class Programme.
In his current role he is heavily involved in the rapidly expanding range of basketball activities for participants at all levels, from schools’ outreach through to senior teams, all under the Essex Rebels banner.
He takes up the voluntary East Chair post on a two-year term, providing leadership at regional level on Basketball England’s activities.
“I am really excited by the opportunity to volunteer as the Basketball England East Regional Chair," said Parry.
“The East Region has many dedicated and talented people with a wealth of knowledge who are organising, running and participating in fantastic clubs, talent programmes, leagues and other activities.
“I look forward to meeting and working with people across the region and using their input to help deliver on Basketball England’s strategic plan. I hope that I can positively contribute to the region’s activities.”
Parry will also work with the Regional Development team to ensure that the Regional Committee functions effectively and assist in resolving any issues within the region.
Community engagement has been a particular focus during Parry's involvement in the sport and includes a programme of engaging young people in areas of social deprivation with Higher Education experience through basketball.
He also had a lead role in the design and specification of the Essex Sport Arena, which opened in January 2018 and has already played host to a number of high-profile events including the Basketball England National Cup Finals and EABL, WEABL and ABL Academy Finals.
The University of Essex is a Basketball England Regional Talent Hub, with Aspire training sessions being hosted at the Essex Sport Arena.
