National Basketball League Division 1 side Team Solent Kestrels put one foot in the BBL Trophy Final with a thumping 103-67 win over BBL side Bristol Flyers.
Kestrels – who remain unbeaten in all competitions since February last year – hosted Bristol Flyers in the first leg of their semi-final clash and dominated throughout, as they went through the century with the help of 29 points from Ian Smith on 10-12 shooting.
Kestrels led 12-2 after three minutes and never looked back, with Smith hitting his first eight shots as they shot 61% from three-point range in the first half, leading 51-43.
But it was a dominant 30-14 fourth quarter that has put them in a commanding position ahead of Sunday’s second leg, as Chris Scarlett opened the final period with a stunning four straight three-pointers, hitting 18 points in 11 minutes off the bench.
It has been a remarkable season for Kestrels, who show no signs of slowing down after their National Cup finals success in the win over Reading Rockets in Essex.
Kestrels are now just 40 minutes away from booking their place in the Trophy Final at the Emirates Arena, Glasgow on Sunday 15 March 2020.
