There are plenty of games in the second game week of 2020 as nine D2M fixtures take place this weekend. We look at the match ups taking place across the league in week 15.
Rebels will be looking to create more of a gap at the top of the Southern Conference standings when they travel to fourth placed London Pioneers on Saturday. Rebels ended their year with a routine win over bottom side Cardiff Met Archers but will face a tougher test in London, with the Pioneers starting the new decade with an impressive derby win on the short road to London Greenhouse.
Oluwamayomipe Adeyeye hit 20 points for Rebels last time out, but this will be no walkover and if Pioneers can spring a surprise they will be right in the mix towards the top of the table.
Solent Kestrels II (3-7) host Greenwich Titans (4-4) as they look to bounce back from their defeat to second place Ipswich. Titans are just ahead of Kestrels in the table and also play London Westside (5-4) this weekend, giving them a chance to create some space between them should they get two positive results.
Ipswich (6-3) will host Sussex Bears (2-7) as they try to keep the pressure at the top of the Southern Conference. The hosts’ Jake Antony Eynon is in fine form going into the game with 29 points at Kestrels, while teammate Ethan Price will be hoping for a similar performance after recording a double-double of 24 points and 13 rebounds last week.
Bottom of the Southern Conference Cardiff Met Archers (1-8) face East London All Stars (4-2) who will be itching to get back out on the court, after two postponed fixtures meaning they haven’t played since early December.
In the Northern Conference bottom side Sheffield (0-9) take on a Bristol Flyers (5-7) side who will want to bounce back from their derby defeat to Bristol Hurricanes last week. Things are tight in the middle of the standings so a win here will make the table look a little bit healthier for Flyers.
Hurricanes (2-8) could do their Bristol rivals a favour when they host Chester (5-5), who are level on points with flyers in the table. Hurricanes will be looking for a remarkable three wins in a row after finding their form and will be raring to go after the derby win last week. Zygimantas Kosarevas and Benas Andriekus starred for the hosts last week with 21 and 20 points and will be vital to any hopes of a third Hurricanes win.
Birmingham Elite (5-5) host Newcastle (9-2) at possibly the most dangerous time, as they try to make amends for their defeat against Manchester Magic. Birmingham are in that mid table mix, level on 10 points with Chester and Flyers and won’t want to fall behind.
Finally there’s the Derbyshire contest between Spartans (4-7) and Arrows (6-6) with Arrows favourites for this one - on paper. Arrows’ Callum McKenzie recorded a 21-point, 10-rebound double-double in week 14’s Sheffield win and will be hoping for a similar derby score.
