Two teams ended the WBBL weekend level on points at the top of the Championship standings as the top six sides continue to battle for position.
Leicester Riders prepared for next weekend’s Trophy Final in the best possible fashion with an 81-64 win over Cardiff Met Archers in Wales. Sara Hinriksdottir stole the show for the visitors with 22 points.
There was cause for more celebration for Jen Ashton as the guard passed 500 WBBL career Championship points during the victory.
The shorthanded Nottingham Wildcats were unable to bounce back from Saturday's defeat as the home side fell 70-65 to an impressive Essex Rebels. Abby Rendle’s 18 points ensured her team moved into the Play-Off positions.
Despite defeat, it was the 50th contest Wildcats play-caller Kendrick Liburd has coached in the WBBL Championship.
Len Busch also enjoyed a personal milestone as he took charge of his – and Sevenoaks’ – 150th WBBL Championship game; the Sevenoaks Suns coach saw his side win 67-44 on the road against Caledonia Pride thanks to 17 points from Renee Busch.
FLT Peterman Sheffield Hatters made a clear statement of intent with an eye-catching 87-65 victory over fellow title rivals Newcastle Eagles. The home side capitalised on the visiting team’s foul troubles to pull away down the stretch, as the logjam at the top of the table grows ever more crowded. Asha Thomas led the way for the hosts with a game-high 21 points.
Elsewhere, Durham Palatinates ensured they will arrive in Glasgow for next weekend’s Trophy Final full of confidence having ended Nottingham Wildcats’ winning run with a 78-65 victory on the road. Dee Hayward’s game-high 24 points proved the spark for Durham.
Finally, Oaklands Wolves reignited hopes of a post-season run with a 64-39 victory over the travelling BA London Lions. Dorka Boros spearheaded a balanced Wolves attack with a game-high 18 points.
