NBL: 2021/22 playoff structures announced

The structures for the 2021/22 NBL, WNBL and Jnr. NBL playoffs have been announced. 

With the new league season set to get underway this weekend, teams will be aware of what they need to do to reach the post season as NBL, WNBL and Jnr. NBL competitions return to some normality following the COVID-19-affected campaign a year ago. 

After a change of format last season, NBL Division One will now realign with WNBL Division One as the regular season’s top eight teams will progress to the playoffs, with higher seeded sides retaining home court advantage in the semi-finals. 

The NBL and WNBL playoff finals are provisionally scheduled for the 23 and 24 April 2022 at the National Basketball Performance Centre in Manchester, with the Jnr. NBL Final Fours taking place at the same venue a week later on 30 April and 1 May 2022.

Back in the mix

Basketball England’s Senior Delivery Manager Gail Richards said: “With the curtain about to be raised on the 2021/22 season, it’s always exciting for teams to also see the finish line and how their season could end if everything goes to plan. 

“After a difficult campaign a year ago, we are delighted to welcome all our NBL, WNBL and Jnr. NBL competitions back into the mix and we’re looking forward to what should be a pair of brilliant playoff finals events in Manchester next year.” 

In the U18 Men’s competition, the top five teams in the Premier Northern, Eastern and Western leagues will all progress to the post season, with one best placed sixth placed team from across the leagues taking the field up to 16 teams.  

The U18 Women’s competition is more straightforward, with the top four teams from the North and South making it through to the quarter-finals, with eight teams ultimately aiming for glory once all is said and done. 

There are no-post season games that lead to the Junior Final Fours for teams in Jnr. NBL regional/conference divisions.
