It follows the departure of Alan Keane, who stepped down earlier this week for family reasons.
Rockets chairman Gary Johnson has started the search for the respected coach's successor.
A club statement said: "The role is ideal for an ambitious coach who wants the opportunity to develop and progress their coaching career, having already served as head coach or assistant coach of an academy (or similar) team and of a Division 1 or 2 NBL team (or similar).
