WNBL1 recap: Week 3 (16/17 October 2021) - live streams, stats and more

Five games filled the D1W schedule this weekend, providing some exciting games with plenty to enjoy.

Anglia Ruskin picked up their first win of the season as the Rhinos beat Cardiff, but the same couldn't be said for Reading, Bristol and Nottingham Trent as they're all still searching for a maiden W in 2021/22.

There's a recap of all the action below, and each result is also clickable if you wish to view the live stats.

Reading Rockets (0-3) 61-64 Worcester Wolves (2-1)

A thrilling come back attempt by Reading fell just short as Worcester held on for a 64-61 against the Rockets.

Trailing by 16 points in the second quarter, the hosts went into the final frame still down by double digits at 52-42 but gave it their all to get back level before the final buzzer.

Two points was a close as the scores would get, leaving the Rockets without a win from their opening three games of the season.

Chandre Nunez led all scorers for the Wolves with 22 points as Carolina Marques added 14 more in support.

Eva Luzon impressed off the bench for Reading, shooting a perfect 8-8 to finish on 17 points to go with six rebounds.

Elsewhere this weekend

CoLA Southwark Pride (3-0) stayed perfect on the year after a thrilling 55-53 win over Thames Valley Cavaliers (1-2).

Emily O'Connell scored the game's final basket to put the Londoners up by two with 78 seconds remaining, though neither team would add to their total the rest of the way.

Isi Ozzy-Momodu pulled down a huge 17 rebounds to go with 11 points for CoLA, while Katherine Goldsby had a well-rounded 12 points, five rebounds, four assists and eight steals for TVC.

London Lions II's (1-2) winless start to the season is over after 19 points from Nicholle Lavinier and 16 more from Fatmata Janneh pushed the Lions to a 61-49 victory over Nottingham Trent University (0-2).

Lavinier also pulled down a team-high eight rebounds, whilst Janneh had six assists and as many boards in the contest. Lindsey Cleary top-scored for NTU with 15 points.

Loughborough Riders (3-0) held Bristol Flyers (0-3) to just eight points in both the first and second quarter as the Riders secured a 60-43 win this weekend.

The stingy defensive display meant Loughborough were able to build a 35-16 half-time lead that they would eventually convert to a double-digit victory.

Robyn Ainge put in a captain's performance to lead the way on 15 points, Emma Bailey and Kayla Goldsmith both had seven for Bristol.

Finally, there was a first win of the season for Anglia Ruskin University (1-1) as they went to Wales and defeated Cardiff Met Archers II (1-2) 60-50.

Ever-present captain Katrin Hulme notched a 16 point, 11 rebound double-double, adding seven assists and five steals to a fine afternoon's work, whilst Carys Roy had a 12 point, 13 rebound double-double of her own for the hosts.
