WNBL1 recap: Week 19 (19/20 February 2022) - live streams, stats and more

The forecast couldn't stop D1W this weekend as the league continues to build towards a tense finish to the regular season.

Loughborough's unexpected OT loss in London yesterday has handed advantage back to CoLA in the race for top spot, but it's still all to play for.

There's a recap of all the action below, and each result is also clickable if you wish to view the live stats.

London Lions II (4-13) 63-58 Loughborough Riders (11-3) (After 1OT)

London Lions II used a period of overtime to shock second-place Loughborough Riders 63-58.

Fatmata Janneh (25pts, 13reb) hit a jumper with 48 seconds left in regulation to tie the teams at 50, and despite attempts by both sides, neither could find the winning basket before the buzzer.

A 10-2 run in the extra frame was enough to push the hosts over the line, with Ruchae Walton (14pts, 8reb, 3ast) also netting a triple as part of that OT streak.

Katie Januszewska and Robyn Ainge (both 13pts, 10reb) led the way for the Riders, whilst former Player of the Week Alia El Shabrawy went 1-6 for 2 points in a rare off day.

The defeat now takes the title race out of Loughborough's hands as they'll need to beat CoLA on the last day of the season and hope the Londoners slip up in at least one of their other six games.

Considering half of those fixtures are against teams in the bottom three as things stand, that appears unlikely.

Elsewhere this weekend

Loughborough started their weekend in the best way possible, beating title rivals Thames Valley Cavaliers (9-4) 60-52.

Januszewska's 21-point, seven-rebound effort was the standout line for the visitors, Katherine Goldsby top-scored for TVC on 18.

Defending champions Ipswich (10-4) used a 30-15 opening quarter to beat Worcester Wolves (4-10) 81-63, sending the visitors firmly into the relegation mire in the process.

Cameron Taylor-Willis had 12 points, 11 rebounds and four assists for the hosts, who continue their push for a top four spot.

Anglia Ruskin University (10-3) extended their recent run of good form as they beat Reading Rockets (4-10) 57-54 thanks to 27 points from Katrin Hulme.

London Lions II made it an incredible two win weekend as they edged Bristol Flyers (7-11) 50-49 on Saturday.

Janneh (14pts, 7reb), Walton (17pts, 6reb, 5ast) and Nicholle Lavinier (11pts, 4reb) all played well as the Lions took a huge step towards D1W survival.

Nottingham Trent University (1-14) now look all but down as they lost 82-61 at home to Cardiff Met Archers II (7-8).

That defeat was compounded by London's double win weekend and a 20-0 forfeit on Sunday against ARU.

Loughborough besting Thames Valley then falling to the Lions played out perfect for leaders CoLA Southwark Pride (14-1) as they beat Team Solent Kestrels (8-7) 69-63.

Forward Molly Lavin top scored with 19 for the hosts, as Krisztina Velkey-Cleeve had 16 in response for Solent.
