NBA and Basketball England prize winners announced

The winners of the inaugural NBA and Basketball England sweepstake to win a trip to New York City to watch a live regular-season NBA game have been announced.

Ariadna Camacho and Dan Conway were randomly selected on 1 March as the competition winners and will now head to the Big Apple to watch the Brooklyn Nets and the New York Knicks, respectively.

Originally from Barcelona, Camacho has been playing basketball for 23 years, after being bitten by the bug when she was eight years old.

Now living in London, the 31-year-old plays for the Camden Panthers, who are currently top of the Women’s Premier in the London Metropolitan Basketball League.

Camacho and her guest will be heading to watch the Brooklyn Nets vs Atlanta Hawks, and there’s much to play for in the Eastern Conference, with the Nets in sixth looking to shore up their playoff place and the Hawks, in eighth, playing to secure their spot in the NBA Play-In Tournament.

“I was very excited to receive the news that I had won,” said Camacho. “I entered the competition when I had to renew my Basketball England Membership at the beginning of the season, but literally forgot that I had entered until I saw that I had won!

“The Hawks are trying to get into the ‘Play-In’, so this is a must win game for them. Hopefully, Trae Young shows up and puts in a strong performance. It should be a competitive game.”

'It's hard to put into words'

Sheffield-native Conway is a sports fan, who supports the Sheffield Sharks in the BBL and has previously watched the Orlando Magic. He said winning the competition was what dreams are made of.

He and his guest will be heading to the world-famous Madison Square Garden to see the New York Knicks take on the Washington Wizards.

As the Knicks head into the post-season, this is a must-win game to secure the best possible playoff berth available to them.

“It's hard to put into words. I’m completely made up,” said the 40-year-old. “To enter a prize draw and then amazingly you're going to New York to see the New York Knicks, it's just what dreams are made of.

“I've never been to Madison Square Garden before. It'll be a first time for me. Really excited to go and see the Knicks play. Hopefully, it'll be a good game.”

A partnership between the NBA and BE, the competition aimed to give UK basketball fans the chance to enjoy an authentic NBA basketball experience.

The prize was open to all residents in England aged 18 years or over and you had to be a Basketball England Member to enter.

News on the next exclusive ‘big ticket’ annual prize draw will be announced ahead of next season.
