'4x4x4 Charity Challenge' raises £6,000 for great causes

A recent '4x4x4 Charity Challenge' raised £6,000 to support local sports clubs and Farnborough Sands, the stillborn and neonatal death society.

Eighty three juniors played in Camberley Town Youth Football Club vs Yateley Silverbacks Basketball Club across four sports, with £6,000 raised.

£3,000 will go to Farnborough Sands, and £1,500 to both Camberley Town Youth FC and Yateley Silverbacks.

The inaugural event was run by Amazon #1 bestselling book and business I don’t work Fridays by Martin Norbury, who sponsored both the teams involved.

Over 80 young players participated in the challenge, where Camberley Town took on Yateley Silverbacks across four age groups (under 8s, under 10s, under 12s and under 14s), in four sports: football, basketball, dodgeball and Laser Run by Pentathlon GB, South & Southeast.

The overall winning team was Camberley Town, with a trophy presented to their Chairman Barrie Funnell.

Sponsors Martin and Jacki Norbury of I don’t work Fridays matched the £3,000 raised from the event and fun day, making a total of £6,000 for the teams and charity involved.

Pete Daines, Chairman of Yateley Silverbacks, commented:

“It was a fantastic day for the clubs and the charity, with an amazing atmosphere and great sporting competition and kids trying out new experiences.

"The money raised will go a long way helping hundreds of basketball players, but more importantly all those bereaved parents that Farnborough Sands support.

"We’re so grateful for our share of the proceeds and for 'I don’t work Fridays' for their additional financial contribution. It’s an expensive business running a club with sixteen teams, so the money we receive will be put towards our U10, U12, and U14 squads, league and match fees, court hire, registrations and equipment, as well as coach, referee and table official development.”

Martin Norbury, author of I don’t work Fridays added:

“We’re overwhelmed by the level of generosity and support for our inaugural 4x4x4 charity fun day.

"When your baby dies, you’re unable to be a parent to them like you had planned and imagined, so volunteering your time feels like a way of actively keeping their memory alive. And being able to support other families via Sands, who may find themselves in such an unimaginable situation, is so important to us.

“Both Camberley Town FC and Yateley Silverbacks clubs do so much for our twins, not only giving them an outlet to have fun, but also teaching them life skills, as well as football and basketball.  We know this money will be well invested by each club into their communities.”
