Academy Leagues: EABL, WEABL back on track with five more games - Week 5

A further quintet of games played out across the Academy landscape yesterday.

There were victories for BMet City of Birmingham Rockets, Barking Abbey and Myerscough in the EABL, whilst MK5D went down in their WEABL debut against The Sheffield College.

We take a look back at all five games below.

EABL

In the South Conference's only game, Barking Abbey (3-0) dealt JMA Reading Rockets (1-1) their first loss of the season, with a 91-62 final score.

Amarlie Wilkinson top scored for the hosts with 19 points, as Ethan Conway and Adam Lukosevicius both added 15 more. Isaac Spurrier led the way for JMA with a game-high 29 points.

In the North, Derby Trailblazers (0-2) couldn't find a way past BMet City of Birmingham Rockets (1-1), as the West Midlands programme picked up their opening win of the season, 72-59.

BMet enjoyed 19 points from Reuben Ubogu and 18 more from Nektarios Papadopoulos, whilst Derby were powered by 17 points from Casey Burr.

Myerscough College (2-0) retained their unbeaten start to the season with another victory, this time downing SGS College (1-2) 81-59.

Aaron Ogunjobi top scored for the visitors, with 15 points on 64% shooting and four boards. Marcus Robinson (14pts) and Divine Ani (11pts, 8reb) also played well.

Corey Hill and Ashton Dyer both had 16 points for SGS, but were the only players for the hosts to reach double digits.

WEABL

The first of two North Conference games involved MK5D Breakers Academy (0-1) playing their first WEABL game, but it would unfortunately end in defeat as they went down 67-57 against The Sheffield College (1-1)

Katie Frow's 21-point, 10-rebound double-double was the standout performance for the hosts, as Faith Deakin (16pts, 6reb, 5ast) and Oceane Yagoli (15pts, 10reb) both made a solid start to their WEABL careers for MK5D.

Manchester Mystics' (2-0) bid to overhaul last season's North champs Charnwood College Riders (0-2) continued with a 66-40 road victory for the Mystics yesterday.

Charnwood were held to just 13 first half points as Manchester built a 27-13 advantage by the main change, powered by 13 points and 17 boards from Irene Oboavwoduo.

Elizandra Costa scored a game-high 21 points.

Louise Fisher (9pts, 9reb) was the pick of the bunch for the Riders.
