EABL

EABL champs Charnwood College Riders got their title defence underway, with a come-from-behind 81-67 victory over Derby Trailblazers.

The hosts may have been sniffing an upset as they led the Riders 59-54 heading into the final ten minutes but a 27-8 frame snuffed out those hopes as Charnwood roared back.

Edward Onyia (22pts, 15reb), Lewis Malcolm (15pts, 12reb) both put together double-double outings, whilst debutant Tristan Curran (10pts, 10ast, 8reb, 6stl) was on quadruple-double watch.

Casey Burr (19pts) and Elias Norman (16pts, 6reb) did the bulk of the scoring for DTB, as Jordan Zimuto (13pts, 8reb, 6/8 FG) played well off the bench.

Myerscough College are also up and running in the North Conference after the beat North West rivals Manchester Magic 92-83.

There were more than a few lead changes across the first half before 'Sco moved ahead, 47-43, by the main change and they'd stay ahead the rest of the way despite Manchester's fight back attempts.

Shooting the same 43% as their opponents (and taking 78 efforts to Myerscough's 71), Manchester took the assist battle 27-18, and poured in 52 points in the paint.

Going 5/27 from beyond the arc, left Magic wondering what might have been though, instead falling to defeat in their season opener.

Harry Godwin (23pts) led all scorers for the hosts as Marcus Robinson (19pts, 9ast, 5reb) flirted with a double-double.

Ronney Ani (32pts, 12reb, 5ast) was the standout for the visitors, with Jack Walton (13pts, 7ast, 4reb, 4stl) impressing on debut.

WEABL

Manchester Mystics got themselves on the board for the new season as they edged past Nottingham Academy Wildcats, 62-59.

Nottingham looked to be on their way to a memorable come back, moving into the final quarter with a double digit deficit before tying the game up at 59-59 with 78 seconds to go.

A go-ahead basket from Irene Oboavwoduo (19pts, 9reb, 7stl) was enough to get Manchester over the line in a nervy finish though, with Wayet Gore then icing the game from the line.

Oboavwoduo was the standout for the visitors, and was supported well by Carina Costa (17pts, 7reb) and Elizandra Costa (14pts, 6reb).

Tiarna Chambers-Desmond (10pts, 9reb), Hanya Correia (10pts, 4reb), Alina Riley (12pts, 4/9 3pt) would all contribute for Nottingham, but it was Sammy Mullock's 15 point, 12 rebound double-double that came closest to pushing the Wildcats to the win.
