Despite being just 16, Caitlin Ryan has already established herself as a dependable and talented statistician around the East region.
Throughout the season she spends pretty much every weekend at Oaklands College, receiving appointment to WBBL games, table officiating junior games, and covering stats for the club's senior teams.
She's a qualified level three table official and became an Advanced Statistician when she was just 14, honing those skills in the years since to make her a mainstay for teams in the area.
Alongside her statistician abilities and the work she does tabling, Ryan is also a talented player and captained the Oaklands Wolves WEABL side during the 2023/24 season.
With those additional strings to her bow, Ryan is able to take that knowledge and game understanding into her stats work, elevating her abilities.
As with so many of the national award winners though, it isn't just about the job Ryan does, but how she does.
"Caitlin is always acts with a professionalism that outweighs her years," says mum Tracy Ryan, when discussing Caitlin's impact.
"She does all this whilst combining her first year of A level studies, plus a successful playing career at Oaklands.
"She has helped to train another statistician to her Advanced Statisticians award and helped run an intro to tabling course at Oaklands for the club's junior players.
"She is a credit to her school, family and club."
Congrats to Caitlin on her award, and also to North West's Adam Irvine and South's K-Anna Lloyd Wheatley for making the shortlist for the national award.
Ryan's award begins the second week of a two-week period where national recipients of the 2023 Basketball England Awards are being announced.
Winners from across BE's ten regions were announced in March, with those recipients then shortlisted to narrow down the field for each national winner.
Ryan and others will be recognised for their achievements over the coming days, leading up to another cohort of selections receiving the prestigious Services to Basketball award on Sunday, 9 June 2024.
