Celebrating Plymouth's new league for youngsters

Local basketball in Plymouth continues to go from strength-to-strength thanks to the work of the Plymouth and District Basketball Association.

In the 2023/24 season, the Association launched its first U12s basketball league and this season has seen it expand to include an U14s league as well.

Now, over 130 children participate across the leagues, with teams from across the region competing for honours, including Plymouth Basketball Club, Plymouth City Patriots, Cornwall Saracens, Torbay Tigers, and two all-girls teams.

The league is focused on development and community, providing growth opportunities not just for the players but also for officials.

Each month, the association runs a Central Venue League morning, where all the teams gather for a day of fun, competitive games held in a fantastic, supportive atmosphere.

Plymouth and District Basketball Association Committee Member Lindsay Chapman said:

"The junior leagues are a great move forward in regards to basketball in the city. The effort and organisation that goes in to ensure that the children have opportunities to play is fantastic. It has been a huge success."
