EABL & WEABL Players of the Week 16/10/24 - Gibbins, Babalola get it done

Another pair of standout players were spotlighted following the latest set of Academy League contests.

After the fourth week of the 2024/25 EABL and WEABL seasons, Copleston's Louisa Gibbins and Manchester's Demi Babalola were rightly singled out for further praise after impressive performances.

WEABL

Talented forward Louisa Gibbins helped Copleston to a commanding 93-29 victory over Barking Abbey to keep their unbeaten WEABL South record intact.

Everything went right for the defending South champs as they put their opponents to the sword, with Gibbins more than doing her part on that front.

Sixteen points came on an efficient 54% shooting that also included 2/3 from beyond the arc, and a game-high 16 rebounds helped Coach Drane's side win the rebounding battle 73-35.

Add in five steals and an assist, and Gibbins was certainly at her best this past Wednesday.

Speaking about her performance, Gibbins said: "I’m really grateful for receiving Player of the Week. It was a great team win and a really well rounded performance from everyone."

Copleston head coach Nick Drane added: "This was a great performance by the whole team. Louisa has embraced an increased leadership role this season and has made a pleasing start to the season for both academy and club."

EABL

Young forward Demi Babalola put together one of the stat lines of the new season in Manchester's 122-48 demolition of SGS College.

Scoring at will on 77% shooting that included 3/4 from three-point range, Babalola netted a game-high 33 points to go with 10 rebounds, three steals and an assist in just 25:25 of action.

He said: "The game plan was to play fast and play aggressively as a team we executed that very well and will try to do the same in our upcoming games."

Manchester head coach Adam Morris added: "I thought the whole team were really mentally locked in throughout the game, especially on the defensive end.

"We expected a high-possession, fast-paced game. I'm really encouraged by the whole group's performance and bouncing back after the previous game."
