EABL & WEABL Players of the Week 27/11/24 - Keyes & Sanchez on song

Week 8 of Elite Academy League action is in the books - and we have two more Players of the Week.

Wins for Myerscough in the EABL and Copleston in WEABL saw Junior Sanchez and Maisie Keyes take the respective individual honours.

WEABL

Keyes gave a composed, efficient performance as Copleston extended their 100% streak to five games by beating Itchen 87-53.

The Great Britain youngster, in her first season with the dominant South Conference outfit after switching from Manchester, hit 20 points with a 46% FG percentage including four of nine threes. She also dished out five assists, grabbed five steals and claimed four rebounds in an all-round effort.

Keyes said: “I’m grateful to have won this award; it was a great team performance with loads of people stepping up.”

Coach Nick Drane said: “Maisie has been getting better and better throughout the early part of the season, both at academy and senior women’s level. She was excellent on Wednesday and deserves this award.”

EABL

Myerscough are also undefeated following a 71-54 win over North Conference rivals and reigning champions Charnwood in which Sanchez excelled.

He had 22 points, eight rebounds and five steals on 26 efficiency to lead his team to 3-0.

Sanchez said: "The team performance was great; we dominated and showed what we are capable of doing in the second half after a rough start. We showed resilience and came out with the dub.

"Winning Player of the Week without the team's effort would of never been possible."

Coach Lewis Scott said: "Junior has been working hard and took his solid performances from the EYBL into the domestic competition it's great that he is being recognised for his hard work."
