FocusHoops' Darren Paul's job doesn't get any easier each week as he returns to make some more Player and Team of the Week picks.

Paul, a writer, commentator, podcaster and more, saw defending regular-season champs Ipswich suffered another bump in the road as they lost out at home to Brent, while there were wins elsewhere for CoLA, Anglia Ruskin, Manchester, Thames Valley and Bristol.

The FocusHoops Team of the Week

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Judit Fritz – Brent Bulls, guard

29pts/5reb/3ast/6stl/27eff

Judit Fritz came up with a massive performance for Brent Bulls as they toppled Ipswich on the road in a highly anticipated contest that went down to the wire.

Fritz finished with 29 points on 50% scoring, including hitting her side’s final seven points down the stretch to clinch the contest.

Fritz led the game in steals (6) to complement her five rebounds and three assists in a statement performance.

Marlee Ball - Bristol Academy Flyers, forward

20PTS/20Reb/6ast/3stl/36EFF

Marlee Ball put in a tremendous 20-20 performance in Bristol’s win over Reading.

Ball led the game in rebounding and was second on her side in scoring, with twelve of her 20 points coming from beyond the arc.

The Bristol forward dished six assists and took away three steals whilst not committing a single foul in the contest, capping off a disciplined starring performance.

Lindsey Cleary - Brent Bulls, guard

17PTS/17Reb/3ast/24EFF

Lindsey Cleary was a huge factor in Brent’s road victory over Ipswich this weekend, finishing with a 17-17 double-double on 50% shooting and game-high rebounding numbers.

Cleary has been an impact player since her first season in the WNBL, and this weekend was no different, as the American star stuffed the stat sheet and helped Brent win the rebounding battle 48-42.

Chandera Jones-Aryeh - CoLA Southwark Pride, guard

14PTS/9RBS/5AST/6stl/24EFF

Chandera Jones-Aryeh led the way for CoLA in their low-scoring home victory over the combative Worcester Wolves this weekend.

Jones-Aryeh topped the scoring charts with 14 points on 40% shooting and was just one rebound short of a double-double outing.

The CoLA standout worked tirelessly on both sides of the ball with five assists, six steals and a near-even split of rebounds at both ends of the floor.

Louisa Gibbins - Endeavour Ipswich Basketball, forward

16PTS/10RBS/3ast/29EFf

Louisa Gibbins’s double-double performance in Ipswich’s narrow loss to Brent secured her Team of the Week spot.

In another highly efficient performance, Gibbins scored 16 points on 60% shooting and went a perfect 4/4 from the charity stripe.

Gibbins was amongst her team leader in boards, finishing with ten total, two on the offensive end, and added to a fine performance with three dimes and two blocks as her star continues to rise.

Brent down ipswich in a thriller

Brent Bulls took the road victory away from Ipswich this weekend in a thrilling contest that went down to the wire.

Judit Fritz led the way in scoring, finishing with 29 in the game, including scoring Brent’s final seven points to close out the victory. Lindsey Cleary and the Welsh-Sharpshooter Eleanor Bishop were the other big scorers for Brent with 17 and 11 points respectively, but it was a team effort that got the narrow win over the line.

Rebounding and getting shots up were the keys to victory for Brent, winning 48-42 on the glass and outshooting the hosts 82-68 as both teams shot a similar clip from the field (Ipswich's 42.6% vs Brent's 40.2%).

Harriet Welham led Ipswich in scoring with 20 points, whilst Louisa Gibbins finished with an impressive 16-10 double-double.

mystics bounce back against cobham

Manchester Mystics got back to winning ways this weekend thanks to a solid team performance in a 71-47 victory over the Cobham Cobras.

The Mystics were led in scoring by Kizzy Spence and Success Odemwingie, who both bagged 15 points, whilst Elizandra Costa chipped in with 13 and Carina Costa had 10.

An outstanding outside shooting performance from Manchester was the difference maker in the game as 11 of their 16 looks from downtown found their mark, whilst Cobham came up empty from beyond the arc in their 12 attempts.

The Cobras have impressed so far in their debut campaign, but Saturday just wasn’t there day. The Cobras were led in scoring by their experienced big Katie Richards with 12 points.
