PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Rehana Khalil – Manchester Mystics, guard

24PTS/3Reb/2AST/4stl/29EFF

Ruthless efficiency was the name of the game for Rehana Khalil as she led her Manchester Mystics to a 66-33 road win over Barking Abbey.

In just 26:45 of action, Khalil was one of the weekend's leading scorers with 24 points on an exceptional 69% shooting from the field.

Khalil was a two-way menace against Barking, racking up points and stops to add four steals whilst committing just one foul in another stellar performance.

Melissa Leet – Loughborough Riders, guard

11PTS/11Reb/3ast/22EFF

Loughborough Riders took an important win from their clash with CoLA Southwark Pride and once against Melissa Leet was a key component in that, finishing with an 11-point, 11-rebound double-double.

Leet recorded one block, which came in crunch time in the fourth quarter, and sank a triple in the same period to keep her side in contention with the defending playoff champs.

Leet also hit 50% of her shots whilst dominating the defensive glass with nine of her 11 rebounds coming at that end.

Vanessa Akra - Brent Bulls, guard

18PTS/11Reb/4ast/6stl/29EFF

Vanessa Akra led Brent past Bristol thanks in large part to her team-high 18 points, adding 11 rebounds for the double-double performance.

Akra shot efficiently, going 50% from the floor, and was clinical at the stripe to drain five of her six efforts. The Brent standout also cleaned up on the glass and showcased her defensive ability with six steals.

Akra has made a great start to the season and Brent are reaping the benefits.

Louisa Gibbins – Endeavour Ipswich Basketball, forward

21PTS/17RBS/32EFF

Louisa Gibbins was at her imperious best once against this weekend as she continues to improve under the tutelage of Nick Drane.

Gibbins put in an ironwoman performance, playing the full 40 minutes over rivals ARU, providing a 21-17 double-double in the process.

The talented forward controlled the glass and scored very efficiently at 57% from the floor, whilst also draining two of four triples.

All in all, it was another great performance from one of the stars of the league.

Maddy Wormald – Endeavour Ipswich Basketball, guard

24PTS/12RBS/26EFf

Maddy Wormald led Ipswich's scoring this weekend with 24 points to go with 14 rebounds in her side’s 78-71 victory over ARU.

Ipswich claim opening East Anglia Derby of 2024/25

Ipswich took down their local rivals Anglia Ruskin University in a close encounter thanks to an exceptional outing from Louisa Gibbins, who has established herself as a star in the WNBL.

Gibbins, Maddy Wormald and Harriet Welham led the scoring for Ipswich with 21, 24 and 15 points respectively with Wormald and Gibbins both finishing with double-doubles.

A free scoring first half allowed ARU to lead by the main change, but Ipswich tightened things up in the second half and restricted Ruskin to just seven points in the final period to pull off an impressive comeback victory.

ARU were led in scoring by Ilaria Zaffaroni with 20 points.

Wolves win battle of the promoted sides

Worcester Wolves took down Cobham Cobras in the first matchup of the two newly promoted sides this season, winning 66-63.

A back-and-forth first half saw the sides level at the break but Worcester erupted out of the gates in the third, holding the Cobras to eight points whilst bagging 23 of their own.

The Cobras chipped away at the deficit in the final period but the Wolves did just enough to hold their advantage.

Katie Richards impressed for Cobham with a contest-high 22 points and eight rebounds for her new side.
