Free online professional development for our clubs

Basketball England and Sport England are collaborating to deliver free online professional development for affiliated clubs.

These sessions have been carefully selected based on feedback from clubs and will be delivered by industry leaders, free of charge.  

BE's Club and Volunteers Development Manager Nick Holloway said:

"We are excited to share with our clubs a variety of upcoming online training opportunities.  

"We have partnered with Sport England to deliver five free workshops that we think will benefit our members, covering hot topics that we hear about from clubs across the country.

"All sessions will be held online and with industry leading tutors that are sure to be full of gold nuggets to help your club."

Dealing with increased costs 

Intro 

As costs rise, this workshop will investigate how to deal with increasing costs and share top tips to help your organisation save money. 

What will you achieve? 

By the end of this session, you will be able to: 

• Explore the potential impact that cost increases are having on your club or organisation
• Share learning on what other clubs and organisations have been doing to counterbalance cost increases and what support they are accessing
• Access tips, hints and other sources of information to support with these increases

This might be the course for you if:

• you’re a budget holder or are responsible for finance at your club or organisation
• you’re part of a leadership team or committee
• you’re involved in supporting clubs or community organisations

Leadership and Governance 

Intro 

This course looks at who’s leading your organisation and the skills they need to be effective. It explores links with good governance principles and shares tips to help you put your policies into practice. 

What will you achieve? 

By the end of this session, you will be able to: 

• Review the leadership and management structure of your club or organisation
• Identify the key principles of an effective committee 
• Develop an action plan to improve the management structure in your club or organisation

This might be the course for you if:

• you’ve recently become part of a leadership team or committee
• you have a senior position (e.g. head coach, chairperson)
• you’re creating a culture of change in your club or organisation
• you’re involved in supporting clubs or community organisations

Intro 

This course will explore how to better connect, understand and engage with your local community. 

What will you achieve? 

By the end of this session, you will be able to: 

• Understand the key principles of community engagement
• Explore the benefits of community engagement
• Explore how your club or organisation can meet the needs of your local community and identified how to engage with them
• Identify actions to improve your club or organisations community engagement efforts

This might be the course for you if:

• you’re responsible for recruiting new members or volunteers 
• you’re involved in supporting clubs or community organisations

Exploring Legal Structures 

Intro 

This course will help you to understand the different options that are available and highlight any considerations if you are looking to change your legal structure. 

What will you achieve? 

By the end of this session, you will be able to: 

• Identify the different types of legal structures and which structure is right for your club or organisation
• Identify top tips on effective governance
• Consider next steps through action planning and where to find further help and advice

Intro 

This workshop will explore how you can use social media to increase awareness of your club or organisation and connect with a wide range of people to help you grow and become more sustainable. 

What will you achieve? 

By the end of this session, you will be able to: 

• Set up basic social media profiles
• Understand the role that social media can pay in promoting your club or organisation
• Considered how to analyse your social media marketing efforts to inform future development
