Basketball England's Safeguarding Team is hosting its inaugural Safeguarding Awareness Week on the 9-13 September 2024.

We want to use the week to highlight some critical safeguarding matters before the season starts to bring these to the forefront of everyone’s mind.

Going into the week you can expect to see information relating to season start. For example, what safeguarding and protecting children/adults looks like, standards for our Club Welfare Officers, and safeguarding requirements for licensing.

Tuesday and Thursday will also see the launch of Club Welfare Officer forums. These forums will take place on:

  • 10 September at 10:00 and 19:00
  • 12 September at 10:00 and 19:00

The forums will be a fantastic opportunity to introduce the BE Safeguarding Team, discuss requirements for CWOs, and provide the opportunity for questions and answers. We know how valuable it is to talk to the team and are looking forward to holding these sessions.

Mid-week, we will discuss common themes in safeguarding, including how one can recognise poor practice.

The week will be rounded-off by a discussion on parent/guardian involvement in basketball, with information shared on how parents/guardians can best support their child and the expected conduct of parents/guardians in our sport.

The information pieces will be shared Monday, Wednesday, and Friday across our social media platforms.
