Growing the game - Essex's Young Ballerz getting bigger each year

Essex-based Young Ballerz Basketball are on the rise.

Founded in 2021 by Carl and Amy Robertson, the pair were inspired to create a grassroots basketball offer for their young sons - and it has been rapidly growing and thriving as a juniors’ basketball organisation, empowering young athletes and expanding its reach year by year.

Launched with just 30 children on the books, Young Ballerz now coaches over 400 children every week.

Focused on providing an alternative to mainstream sports, the organisation is dedicated to growing grassroots basketball in the UK.

Through structured, fun classes led by passionate and experienced coaches, they offer children as young as three a chance to build confidence and skills on the court.

Additionally, the BE affiliated organisation has reignited the passion of former basketball players by helping them transition into coaching, with a number of its coaches reaching their Level 2 qualification.

Co-founder Carl Robertson said:

"Basketball has always been my passion, but I didn’t have the chance to start playing until I was about 14. That experience has fuelled my drive to get children involved in the game much earlier.

“Through structured classes led by highly qualified and dedicated coaches, we encourage kids to embrace basketball from the grassroots level. We haven't looked back since our two boys inspired us to start this company.

"Our mission is simple: to allow children to enjoy the sport I have loved my whole life from an early age and help grow the game here in the UK."
