NBL1 preview: 26/27 October - live streams, stats and more

D1M continues to crank it up a notch, with another healthy dose of action this weekend.

Seven games fill the schedule with every team in action, plus Reading Rockets taking part in their first double-header of the season as they play Newcastle and Worthing.

The Sunday leg of that double-header, the Rockets home game with Worthing, will form part of an NBL Live double bill as John Hobbs covers both the D1W and the D1M action from Loddon Valley.

We take a look at all the weekend's action below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

Essex Rebels (1-2) vs Derby Trailblazers (2-1)

Last season's top two go head-to-head tomorrow as Derby Trailblazers clash with Essex Rebels.

Both sides finished with 20-4 records a year ago, with the Trailblazers taking the regular season title thanks to the tiebreaker between the two sides.

Neither outfit has been up to that level so far in 2024/25, with Derby dropping a game against City of Birmingham in their first three contests, whilst Essex only picked up their first W of the new season a week ago.

That said, there is still plenty of the season left to go, and champions certainly aren't crowned in October.

Derby in particular have looked bright outside of that loss to the Rockets, with Malcolm Smith, Leighton Elliott-Sewell and Raheem May-Thompson all doing well. American David Simental also came to the party last weekend against Thames Valley, and his 27-point, eight-assist outing was enough to seal a maiden spot in the D1M Team of the Week.

Likewise, Essex standout, Luke Busumbru, was also singled out for honours for his part in Saturday's 84-67 victory against Nottingham, and he'll need more of that form if the Rebels are going to pick up another win this weekend.

Another key to an Essex victory will be to slow down Derby's D1M-best offence, with coach Henderson's side currently averaging 95.7PPG. That'll be a tough ask, but the Rebels do own the league's fourth best defence, allowing just 75.3PPG.

Elsewhere this weekend

The weekend begins with the first of Reading Rockets' (2-1) two games, as they make the long trip up to the North East to face Newcastle Knights (1-2).

The Knights and current D1M Player of the Week Corey Johnson pulled off a stunning road win to beat Milton Keynes last weekend and now head home to try and keep that momentum going.

That means Milton Keynes Breakers (2-1) will need to find a way back to winning ways though, and they've got a road game on the cards against Bristol Hurricanes (1-1) - the first meeting of the season between the two newly promoted former D2 sides.

Hemel Storm (3-0) are one of two sides that remain unbeaten this year. They take their spotless record on the road tomorrow against Loughborough Riders (1-1), who didn't have a game last weekend and come into this one well-rested.

City of Birmingham Rockets (3-0) are D1M's other remaining unbeaten side, and they'll look to carry that on against Thames Valley Cavaliers (1-2) and the ever-impressive Justin Robinson.

Winless Bradford Dragons (0-2) will look to get off the mark as they welcome Nottingham Hoods (1-2), with the Yorkshire side hoping to find some success before upcoming games against Derby and City of Birmingham.

Sunday's only other game alongside Essex Derby is the second leg of Reading's double-header as they host Worthing Thunder (0-3).

Worthing, like Bradford, are one of the two sides without a win to their name so far. That said, Thunder still possess the league's fourth most potent offence, scoring 86.7PPG.

The NBL Live cameras will be on hand to capture all the action, with John Hobbs and co. getting coverage underway on the BE YouTube channel from 5pm.
