NBL1 recap: 26/27 October - live streams, stats and more

It was a thrilling weekend of NBL1 action, as two games were decided in overtime.

However, as the dust settles on another round of games, Hemel Storm find themselves alone at the top of the standings.

We take a look back at all the weekend's action below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

Essex Rebels (1-3) 82-85 Derby Trailblazers (3-1) AOT

In a battle for the ages, Derby Trailblazers needed an extra period to edge Essex Rebels 85-82 on Sunday.

Derby looked to be heading to a closely-fought win until Ben Winter snuck in on the buzzer to force overtime.

However, the Trailblazers took control from there and led by as many as eight points, fending off a desperation comeback attempt from the Rebels for their third straight win.

Leighton Elliot-Sewell produced a majestic 21 points and 18 rebounds to lead Derby, supported by Raheem May-Thompson with 20. Luke Busumbru had 18 for Essex.

Elsewhere this weekend

Hemel Storm (4-0) have early breathing space at the top of the NBL1 standings with an 85-75 road win against Loughborough Riders (1-2) on Saturday.

Tra'michael Moton shot 11/17 from the field as he exploded for 31 points and Darien Nelson-Henry helped tick the scoreboard along with 17 points and 10 rebounds for the Storm, who shot 54% in the game.

Michael Joiner led the Riders with 17 points, and the starting five all scored in double figures, but their bench only contributed six points.

Hemel's win was helped by the City of Birmingham Rockets (3-1) losing their first game of the campaign, 84-73, to Thames Valley Cavaliers.

Ed Lucas hit four triples for his 22 points as TVC shot 53% from the field compared to just 35% from the Rockets, who were paced by Orlan Jackman's 21.

Bristol Hurricanes (2-1) won 90-83 over MK Breakers (2-2) in the South West in a battle of the newly promoted NBL1 teams.

On his Hurricanes debut, Elvisi Dusha went 4/5 from three-point land to lead all scorers with 25 points. He also dished out seven assists.

Nathan Robinson led the Breakers charges with 18 points, but to no avail, as Milton Keynes lost back-to-back league games for the first time in the club's history.

Reading Rockets (4-1) enjoyed a double-winning weekend as they recovered from a slow start to eventually topple Newcastle Knights 95-81 in the North East.

Trailing 8-0 to start, the visitors knotted it up at 20-20 after one before a 27-9 second-quarter blitz blew the game wide open.

Justin Hopkins returned to haunt his former club as he top-scored with 24 points for Reading. Ronald Blain paced Newcastle with 26 points, going 10/13 from the free-throw line.

Following a long trip back south, the Rockets followed that up with an 85-78 win over Worthing Thunder (0-4) at Loddon Valley on Sunday in front of the NBL Live cameras.

Reading's Ty Nsangu was impressive, posting 22 points and 10 rebounds against his former club, with Thunder's Elijah Maynard also amassing 22 against his old team-mates.

There was a second overtime thriller over the weekend in Bradford, but the Dragons (0-4) still await their first win of the season, having lost 85-84 to the Nottingham Hoods

A clutch triple from Dragons' Kofi Josephs sent the game to an extra period with less than 10 seconds left, but they had to get a crucial stop on the last Hoods possession, which came from Jordan Whelan, who blocked Kayne King's attempt at a game-winner.

However, King came good with seconds left as he iced a pair of free throws with 15 seconds left to break Bradford's hearts. Latrell Maitland shot 63% from the floor for his 19 points to lead Nottingham. Josephs led all scorers with 26 for the Dragons.
