NBL2/3 & WNBL2 recap (12/13 October 2024) - scores, stats and more

After the third week of the NBL2 season, three teams have proud 3-0 records with another two sides at 2-0.

Manchester Magic are perfect from their three games as they used a strong 17-6 fourth quarter to topple Cardiff Met Archers 64-58 in the North West. Tyme Regent-Bascombe led the Magic with 16 points, cancelling out Dan Flaherty’s 17 for the Archers.

But Manchester’s effort is only good enough for second in the D2 table as Bristol Academy Flyers II top the North on points differential. They downed the Encon Derbyshire Arrows 92-75 away from home thanks to 24 points from Giuseppe Landolfi.

The other team with a 3-0 mark is Barking Abbey, who sit at the top of the D2 South table after securing an 89-68 win away to Essex Rebels II.

GB junior Ethan Conway had a game-high 23 points for the winners as they recovered from a slow start, trailing 26-17 to win the next three quarters comfortably.

Hot on Barking’s heels are Team Solent Kestrels, who secured their second win in as many games on Saturday with a narrow 80-78 success at Richmond Knights. Isa Brandon exploded for 33 points to lead the South Coast side.

Solent are joined at 2-0 by NASSA, who sunk London Elite 96-71 at the UEL Sportsdock, while London Stars, breezed past Endeavour Ipswich 101-90.

Finally, 32 points from Lanre Ayinla and 25 more from Mayo Adeyeye were enough to help Greenwich Titans down Cobham Scorchers 104-85, moving them back to 1-1 in the process.

Up north, St Helens Saints recorded their first win of the season by downing Teesside Lions 71-65 in Middlesbrough thanks to 18 points from Ben Tew. There were also wins for Cardiff City, beating winless Liverpool 88-79, and Bristol BBU narrowly beat Worcester Wolves 87-86.

In the lone Sunday game in D2 North, Leicester Warriors edged Myerscough Basketball Academy 92-88.

The lone WNBL2 game this weekend saw the City of Birmingham Rockets improve to 2-0 in Group 1 by toppling the Nottingham University Wildcats 61-49.

With just a single point separating the two sides at the break, the Rockets moved up a gear in the third quarter before sealing the win towards the early stages of the final quarter. Nuri Calderon led the way with 20 points.
