NBL2/3 & WNBL2 recap (19/20 October 2024) - scores, stats and more

Wins for Hemel Storm and Milton Keynes Breakers stood out during a busy weekend of action in WNBL Division 2.

A defensive masterclass from the Storm resulted in a 69-26 win over the London Thunder, which secured the Storm's third win in as many games in Pool II.

Emily Taylor paced Hemel with 16 points, with Becca Harvey adding 12, as they held London to single figures in all four quarters enroute to a comfortable victory.

Sarah Round and Paige Vyse were catalysts in Milton Keynes Breakers remaining unbeaten in Pool I as they raced out to a 22-11 lead, eventually winning 67-48 against Liverpool. Both Round and Vyse scored 12 to lead the Breakers.

Elsewhere in WNBL2, Team Solent Kestrels grabbed a narrow 70-67 victory over the Thames Valley Cavaliers II, as Anna Mendez led the way with 23 points, supported by 18 from Tilly Goddard.

East London Phoenix came away the winners in their battle of the capital, as Milene Soares Gama Vaz led all scorers with 19 points in a 67-50 success over London Elite.

And 22 points from former Reading Rocket Charlotte Devereux was enough for the Cardiff Met Archers to come away with a 72-68 win over winless Charnwood Riders in South Wales.

Sunday's lone game saw Oaklands College Wolves II storming off Stevenage Royals 90-28.

NBL2

In a packed schedule in NBL Division 2, Liverpool finally found joy as they secured their first win of the season, edging Bristol Basketball United 95-93 on Merseyside.

Kaphel Ulett-Waul exploded for 32 points to lead Liverpool to the win, with Joe Lister also exceptional with 18.

However, at the top of the Division 2 North table, Bristol Academy Flyers II has some breathing space as Tre Thomas' 20 points secured an 82-75 victory over Myerscough Basketball Academy.

Bristol's cushion at the top was thanks to Leicester Warriors, who inflicted the first loss of the season on the Manchester Magic - 14 points from Malik Legania helped the Midlands side to a 63-56 win.

Teesside Lions also picked up a much-needed victory over the weekend, downing the Worcester Wolves 75-64 on the road. Brenden Patrick led the way for the Lions with a game-high 25 points.

To complete the action in the North, the Encon Derbyshire Arrows needed overtime to seal a thrilling 90-84 victory over Cardiff City in Wales, thanks to 19 points from both Titas Berzinis and Hamza Ibrahim.

Over in the South, Barking Abbey and Team Solent Kestrels remained unbeaten with wins over NASSA and Westminster Warriors, respectively.

Barking Abbey improved to 4-0 thanks to a 75-58 success over NASSA, with Amarlie Wilkinson's 18 points, and Solent went to 3-0 with a resounding 103-58 win over Westminster Warriors thanks to 21 points to Russell Gariepy.

There were two London derbies over the weekend. Ryan Martin was the catalyst for the London Stars' 78-68 win over London Elite, as Martin poured in 22 points. Greenwich Titans also bagged a 103-94 victory over the Barnet Bulldogs.

There were more wins for the London teams over the weekend, with Richmond Knights sealing a 75-74 victory over Endeavour Ipswich Basketball and Cobham Scorchers bagging a good 79-70 win away to Essex Rebels II.
