Safeguarding: Monthly blog set to begin in July

Basketball England will begin a new monthly safeguarding blog, starting in July 2024.

Released on the first Friday of each month, the blog will cover a variety of topics that will provide up to date and valuable information for anyone working in the sport.

The Basketball England Safeguarding Team successfully launched a podcast episodes in September 2023, with BE's Senior Safeguarding Manager Lois Harrison talking to a number of guests from across the sport about a rich variety of topics.

Those conversations sparked important and interesting discussions relating to safeguarding and basketball at all levels of the sport, prompting the opportunity for some longer form pieces about key safeguarding topics to feature on basketballengland.co.uk.

Basketball England's Safeguarding Specialist Amy Riding said:

"We're delighted to be bringing together a new series of blogs that should prove informative for all within the game, including the valuable Welfare Officer network.

"With the success of the podcast series, it is clear there is an appetite for further discussion and guidance in a number of areas, and we're pleased we can take further steps in providing that information more widely."

With topics such as the Sports Welfare Officer Network, the role of club welfare officers, positive coaching practice, policy updates and more, the blogs will also be shaped by key points in the basketball calendar, such as season start, and October's Keeping Your Child Safe in Sport Week.

Members will also be kept up to date with what is happening across safeguarding at the NBG level, making safeguarding communications more accessible than ever.
