WNBL1 preview: 19/20 October - live streams, stats and more

With the National Cup on the back-burner once again, it's time to switch the focus back to D1W.

There's a number of intriguing ties this weekend, including Anglia Ruskin's trip to Endeavour Ipswich Basketball, Bristol Academy Flyers entertaining Brent Bulls and unbeaten Manchester Mystics heading to Barking Abbey.

We take a look at all the weekend's contests below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

Endeavour Ipswich Basketball (1-1) vs Anglia Ruskin University (1-1)

Anglia Ruskin head to defending regular-season champs Ipswich tomorrow as two teams with .500 records look to get themselves further up the standings.

Ipswich are facing something they haven't had to endure much in recent seasons, bounce-back from defeat, after they narrowly lost 80-77 in last weekend's only D1W game.

The Suffolk side only dropped three games on their way to top spot last year, though a visit from Anglia Ruskin will be a tricky test to navigate for Harriet Welham and Co.

ARU won last time out, beating Barking Abbey 62-53 thanks to 18 points from Nadege Talva and 16 more from Tia Freeman.

Freeman has been a great pick up for Ruskin this summer after a productive career to date in the WSLB (then WBBL), and alongside new import signing Izabelle Booth who swoops in from Rhode Islands College, ARU have made some improvements to a roster that went 10-11 in 2023/24.

After this weekend, Ipswich take on Reading before a pair of tricky tests against 2-0 sides Manchester Mystics and CoLA. Coach Drane's side can't afford to take their eye of the ball this weekend though against an ARU side that could spring an upset.

Elsewhere this weekend

Five other games make up the weekend, starting with Thames Valley Cavaliers (1-1) vs Reading Rockets (0-2).

Fresh off their momentum-boosting win against Ipswich, TVC will be relishing going up against a Reading side yet to win this season.

Last season's promoted sides, Worcester Wolves (0-2) and Cobham Cobras (1-1) clash in the West Midlands in a fight for early season points, whilst Brent Bulls (1-1) head to Bristol Academy Flyers (1-1) in another of the league's battles between 1-1 sides this weekend.

Saturday ends with a couple of teams at opposite ends of the table going at it in East London as Manchester Mystics (2-0) take a trip to Barking Abbey (0-2).

Currently winless after defeats to Copleston and Anglia Ruskin, BA will want to start picking up points quickly if they're to avoid getting pulled into a similar campaign to their 6-16 season a year ago.

That just leaves the one tie for Sunday as reigning Playoff champs CoLA Southwark Pride (2-0) take their unbeaten start to the season on the road to take on another 2-0 side in Loughborough Riders.
