Defending regular-season champs Ipswich suffered another bump in the road as they lost out at home to Brent, while there were wins elsewhere for CoLA, Anglia Ruskin, Manchester, Thames Valley and Bristol.
Ipswich did have better fortunes 24 hours later though, sealing a spot in the WNBL National Cup semi-finals with a commanding 88-36 victory over Barking Abbey with a solid team effort.
We take a look at all the weekend's match-ups below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.
A brilliant performance from Bristol's Marlee Ball was enough to help the Flyers beat Reading, with an 89-64 final score.
Ball was a standout performer in her side's fourth win of the campaign, closing with a stunning 20-point, 20-rebound double-double to go with six assists and three steals.
Ball was supported by a pair of top performances, including a game-high 24 points from Hannah Wallace and 15 more from Leila Jepson, who netted three triples in her total.
The visitors were able to turn it on from the get-go, winning the opening frame 24-12 before extending that lead to 47-23 by the half.
That created a deficit that was too big to overcome for D1W's basement side as they remain winless on the season after six outings.
Alicia Guerra Rainford (18pts, 6reb) top-scored for the Rockets, with Millie Day (15pts, 9reb) and Kristina Karpova (11pts, 5reb) also doing their bit despite the final score.
Reading now move on to a crunch road tie with fellow strugglers Barking Abbey next weekend, and Bristol head home for what should be a stern test against CoLA Southwark Pride.
.
The weekend began with Worcester Wolves (2-4) coming up short on the road against defending playoff champs CoLA Southwark Pride (5-1), who ran out as 51-44 winners.
Chandera Jones-Aryeh (14pts, 9reb, 6stl, 5ast) had the pick of the stat lines for Pride in the low-scoring encounter as Nina Wallace (12pts, 10reb, 8stl) neared a triple-double for the Wolves.
Endeavour Ipswich Basketball (4-3) couldn't bounce back from last weekend's defeat as they went down at home to Brent Bulls (5-1), with a narrow 80-76 scoreline.
Judit Fritz knocked down seven key points during the home stretch to get Brent over the line, finishing with 29 points to go with six steals and five boards alongside team-mate Lindsey Cleary, who had a big 17-point, 17-reboudn double-double. Harriet Welham (20) led the way for Ipswich.
Loughborough Riders (4-3) are another team on a slide as they lost their third game in a row, 72-66, away to Anglia Ruskin University (4-3).
Izabelle Booth (27pts) led all scorers for ARU, cancelling out 21 points from Loughborough's Alex Shaw.
Manchester Mystics (4-3) had no problems seeing off the challenge of Cobham Cobras (3-4), using a 26-14 second quarter to win 71-47.
Cobham went 0/12 from beyond the arc as they searched for a way back into the game, allowing Success Odemwingie and Kizzy Spence (15pts) to profit at the other end for the Mystics.
Saturday's final tie saw Barking Abbey (1-5) slip to their fifth defeat of the season as they came out second best against Thames Valley Cavaliers (3-3), 76-53.
Kat Goldsby (22pts, 9reb) and Mrashi Karumba-Roberts (14pts, 11reb, 6stl) were both in fine form for TVC as they moved their record back to .500 on the year.
