The events will help prepare academy players for the next stage of their academic and performance sport journeys, whether that’s overseas or domestically.
This year, there will be two camps, split over two venues to increase player engagement and contact time with coaches.
A southern camp will take place at Oaklands College on the 19 February and its northern equivalent at Nottingham Wildcats Arena on the 20th.
On court, DiSE athletes will enjoy masterclasses and support from GB Women’s Assistant Coach and SLB Sheffield Hatters Head Coach Vanessa Ellis, GB U20 Men’s Head Coach Alan Keane, GB U16 Men’s Head Coach Liam Jefferson and GB U16 Women’s Assistant Coach Siobhán Prior.
Cardiac screening will be available to all DiSE athletes, which is part of BE’s continued commitment to athlete care and well-being across its talent pathway.
Performance profiling will also be a central feature of the camps, serving to support the tracking of DiSE athletes, as well as the collection and analysis of performance data related to the ‘Physically Robust’ pillar of BE’s Player Development Framework, ie ‘to help players be fit and strong so they can play longer and perform better’.
"Naturally, the DiSE Progression Camp or camps, as is the case this year, is in support of the DiSE Qualification and will focus on athletic development, athlete learning, and the sharing of good practice.
“Based on feedback, we wanted to split the camp up from last year to help reduce travel time for our academies and maximise athlete contact time with our performance coaches.
“We are looking forward to two-days of optimised development and progression.”
The Diploma in Sporting Excellence (DiSE) programme is a two-year, Department for Education funded programme. It is a unique sporting qualification designed to meet the needs of student athletes who exhibit the potential to achieve excellence in their sport.
The DiSE is a two-year education programme which is delivered alongside a conventional state funded study programme of education or training for students aged 16-18 years and those students aged 19-24 years who have an Education, Health and Care plan.
In basketball, DiSE students compete in the EABL and WEABL.
