Academy Leagues: Twelve 24/25 standouts enter history books

The 2024/25 Academy Leagues may be over, but some players have etched their names into the competitions' history books.

Twelve players have entered the EABL or WEABL statistical top 10s over the last campaign, with one player even setting the best-ever mark across a category.

Since the EABL and WEABL stats records began in 2015, we've been tracking the top 10 performers in a number of categories, with a number of the most recent cohort making their mark.

We take a look at those performances below, providing a fitting end to the current campaign.

North Conference MVP Casey Burr picking up his award

EABL

North Conference MVP Casey Burr certainly wowed coaches across the league with his scoring exploits this season, and his 21.9PPG mark was good enough to sneak him into 10th all-time for points per game, replacing Bournville College's Sedale Hanson-Young from 2015/16 in the process.

BMET City of Birmingham Rockets may have struggled this season, finishing 2-8 in the North, but Ethan Haywood's 6.4APG puts him sixth all-time on the assists leader board.

Derby's Zac Atkins (5.9APG) also makes his mark on the assists list, whilst EABL winner and final MVP Lewis Obiorah (2.7BPG) adds himself to the blocks leader board for a second time, following up his 2.3BPG in 2023/24 with an even better mark this campaign for tied-fifth all-time.

That just leaves a pair of City of London Academy - Southwark standouts to round out this year's EABL additions, with Montrel Roberts and David Banjoko both making a mark on the True Shooting list.

True shooting percentage is an advanced statistic that measures a player's efficiency at shooting the ball. It is intended to more accurately calculate a player's shooting than field goal percentage, free throw percentage, and three-point field goal percentage taken individually, with Roberts (70.3%, third overall) and Banjoko (69.6%, fourth overall) both earning accolades for their efforts in 2024/25.

CoLA's Ayla Habbal in action

WEABL

For the second year in a row, a standout player has nabbed top spot in one of the WEABL's record books.

CoLA's Chloe Vella may have had her debut season curtailed by injury, but her 72.7% true shooting mark is one for the ages, topping the category over previous leader Maya Price.

Another player impressing in their first WEABL campaign was Manchester's Irene Oboavwoduo as her 24.75EFF across 2024/25 was good for 10th, replacing Barking's former standout Fatmata Janneh in 2021/22.

CoLA's Ayla Habbal won the assist crown for 2024/25, and her 6.3APG sends her sixth all-time, whilst steals leader Carina Costa (5.0SPG) is now 10th overall for that category, squeezing out another notable WEABL alum in GB's Holly Winterburn.

Finally moving past her long-term injury problems, WEABL Final MVP Hannah Gray was dialled in for Copleston beyond the arc this year, and her 40.5 3PT% makes her tied for eighth, whilst team-mate Kara Bassil (63.6%, fourth all-time) is another making her mark on the true shooting leader board after a standout season.
