EABL & WEABL Players of the Week 05/02/25 - Babalola and Costa keep Manchester on track

With the women locking up the WEABL North and the men now one win away from following suit, it's no surprise to see a Manchester double up this week.

Both the Magic and Mystics pulled off big wins last Wednesday, with Demi Babalola picking up his third award of the season as Elizandra Costa nabbed the WEABL accolade.

EABL

A week after Demi Babalola dragged Manchester over the line in a one-point win over Derby, he was at it once again on Wednesday in the road tie with BMet City of Birmingham Rockets.

More comfortable winners this time, 88-80, the Manchester forward was once again his side's star man with a team-high 29 points to go with five rebounds, two assists and a steal.

Babalola, as is often the case, shot with terrific efficiency, knocking down 11/14 FGs that included a perfect 2/2 from three-point land.

Babalola said: “I am very grateful for the award again and very proud of our team for being calm and together throughout the game.

"We executed what we covered in practice and will try to do the same in our next game.”

Manchester head coach Adam Morris added: "Demi continues each week to improve his game and has shown, especially in the last few games, how much he can effect on both ends of the court.

"He should be very proud of his season so far, especially as a first year."

WEABL

Manchester kept their perfect season going for another week on Wednesday as they easily dispatched The Sheffield College 86-39.

Elizanda Costa went off in the big win, putting together a 22-point, 11-steal performance as she constantly made her presence felt on defence, adding six rebounds and an assist.

A 29 efficiency was the highest of the game and Costa more than showed her well-rounded skill set in the win.

Costa said: "I enjoyed the game against Sheffield on Wednesday. It enabled us to do things we’ve been working on in practice, whether they be offensively or defensively.

"Myself and the team put in the hard work and we worked together throughout to give us a comfortable win."

Manchester head coach Peter Paraskeva added: "Eli always brings great energy to every game and Wednesday was no exception. We are all really proud of her continued development and contribution to the team this season.

"We now set our sights on the challenge of the playoffs in the coming weeks."
