The FocusHoops Team of the Week

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Chandera Jones-Aryeh – CoLA

14PTS/8RBS/5AST/27EFF

Title-chasing CoLA Southwark Pride bested playoff hopefuls Bristol Flyers on Saturday, thanks partly to a very efficient outing from Jones-Aryeh.

She finished with 14 points on 75% shooting and made both her free-throw attempts whilst battling on the boards for eight rebounds and finding teammates for five assists. Jones-Aryeh didn’t commit a single turnover and just one foul in a disciplined and measured performance.

Lindsey Cleary – Brent Bulls

28PTS/13RBS/1AST/24EFF

A double-double performance from Cleary was a major difference maker for Brent as they took down Cobham at home.

She top-scored with 28 points, including three makes from outside, whilst draining 5-6 from the line. Cleary led the game on the glass with 13 rebounds, five on the offensive end and contributed one assist in the outing.

Elizandra Costa – Manchester Mystics

23PTS/2RBS/2AST/23EFF

Costa’s 23 points, on 62% shooting, was a deciding factor as Manchester overcame their playoff rivals Loughborough Riders this weekend.

She went an impressive 3-5 from beyond the arc. Costa had a 10-point third period which helped Manchester keep Loughborough at bay, at a close first half. She tacked on two rebounds and two assists along with three steals in an efficient and effective outing for the Mystics.

Nicole Clancy – Barking Abbey

17PTS/7RBS/7AST/6STL/22EFF

Barking Abbey pulled off one of their biggest wins of the season with a road victory over fellow strugglers Reading Rockets.

Clancy led all scorers with 17 points which included going 5-6 from the charity stripe. She pulled down seven rebounds (all defensive), dished out seven assists and took away a game-high tying six steals in a valuable 36-minute outing.

Sharon Adejonwo – Barking Abbey

10PTS/10RBS/4AST/22 EFF

Adejonwo scored an efficient and valuable 10-10 double-double as Barking took down Reading, with the forward making 5-8 from the floor, including six points in a dominant opening period for the Londoners.

She was a force to be reckoned with on the offensive glass with seven of her ten boards coming on that end of the floor, whilst also dishing out four assists and taking away four steals. Adejonwo also scored the game-tying basket down the stretch to halt an impressive Reading fightback.

Team performance

Barking ground Rockets

Barking Abbey picked up their fourth win on the season with a valuable road victory over Reading Rockets this weekend. With four players in double-digit points and seven players on the scoresheet it truly took a team performance to topple the Rockets.

Nicole Clancy led in scoring with 17 points as Megan Verbeeten, Alice Woodward and Sharon Adejonwo all hit double figures in scoring with Adejonwo cleaning up on the glass. Higher offensive output and five more makes from outside was a key factor in Barking’s success as they are just two wins back of Cobham with two games in hand. Reading were led in scoring by Millie Day on 16 points.

Ipswich outlast Wolves to retain top spot

Ipswich had to withstand a brilliant final period fight back from the Worcester Wolves at home this weekend to edge a four-point victory and stay ahead of the CoLA by two points at the head of the table.

Harriet Welham who led all scorers with 29 points as Maisie Keyes had 20 in an otherwise lower scoring outing for the league leaders, the pair contributing 11 of the 13 points in a tense final period.  Louisa Gibbins was, as always, a force to be reckoned with on the glass pulling down 20 rebounds, 16 of those on defence in a huge performance for her side. Carolina Marques and Nina Wallace were the leaders for Wolves with 18 and 14 points respectively in a tough encounter.
