It was a big weekend at both ends of the D1W table, with FocusHoops' Darren Paul on hand to take it all in

FocusHoops' Paul, a writer, commentator, podcaster and more, saw Ipswich enjoy a big weekend as they beat rivals CoLA before fellow challengers Brent picked up a loss in Manchester.

With no stats from Anglia Ruskin vs Cobham, those players were unable to be selected.

Kristina Karpova - Reading Rockets, guard

Reading claimed their second win on the year thanks to a great scoring day from skipper Karpova.

She bagged 26 points off 63% shooting which included five makes from outside and going 7/8 from the foul stripe.

The Rockets standout helped get her side off to a blistering start, scoring 18 points in the opening period and helping build a platform for the eventual win.

With three assists, three rebounds and two steals, Karpova contributed across the board to get the job done.

Maddy Wormald – Endeavour Ipswich Basketball, guard

With 19 points in the first half, Wormald helped Ipswich to a huge win at home against their title rivals CoLA Southwark Pride on Saturday.

She finished with 24 points on 47% shooting, hitting an impressive 50% from beyond the arc (6/12 3PT).

Wormald also put in a big shift on the glass, finishing with a double-double, having pulled down ten boards and also nabbing two steals in another excellent outing for Ipswich’s Australian star.

Maisie Keyes - Endeavour Ipswich Basketball, guard

Keyes was borderline unstoppable around the basket for Ipswich in their crucial victory over title challengers CoLA .

She finished with 15 points, going 5/6 from in the paint, whilst making a triple and going 2/2 from the stripe. Keyes contributed heavily down the stretch, scoring seven points and assisting on a Wormald triple as Ipswich managed the challenge of CoLA in the final period of play.

With five rebounds and six dimes, Keyes had a big impact on her team when it mattered, and in a variety of ways.

Lindsey Cleary - Brent Bulls, guard

Cleary put in a huge individual effort for Brent in their narrow loss to Manchester this weekend.

She led all scorers with a massive 36 points on 57% shooting, with 13 of her points coming from the charity stripe having drawn 10 fouls in the contest, showing how difficult Manchester found containing the American.

Cleary turned provider for four assists whilst finishing a bruising contest with two boards, and despite the final score, it was a performance to remember for the Bulls standout.

Brent's Lindsey Cleary (Flo Alalade)

Alex Shaw - Loughborough Riders, forward

Shaw’s double-double effort for Loughborough helped them take a narrow win away from the ever-improving Barking Abbey on Saturday.

She finished with 20 points on 50% shooting and bagged five points in the final 2:22 of the game to clinch the victory as Barking battled to the final buzzer.

Shaw trailed only team-mate Melissa Leet on the glass to finish with 13 rebounds, and led the league this weekend with seven offensive rebounds. It was a big performance that keeps Loughborough well in the chase for a top four finish.

Ipswich win as rivals fall

Ipswich were the big winners this weekend as they took down title chasing CoLA Southwark Pride at home as Brent dropped one up in Manchester.

The Suffolk side were led in scoring by Maddy Wormald (24), Maisie Keyes (15) and Harriet Welham (13), whilst Louisa Gibbins and Wormald cleaned up on the glass with 10 and 14 boards respectively in the absence of CoLA forward Chloe Vela.

As is often the case, Ipswich’s three point-game was the real difference between the sides with the hosts draining making 14 threes compared to CoLA’s 5, although CoLA did make the hosts pay at the foul line, enjoying 20 attempts to Ipswich's four.

Pride were led in scoring by Ayla Habbal, who finished with a 19-12 double-double.

Rockets keep their hopes alive

Reading Rockets picked up their much-anticipated second victory of the season thanks to a huge scoring performance from Kristina Karpova and a great all-around display from Saffie Jarju as they defeated Worcester Wolves at home.

Karpova bagged 24 points in the win, with Amba Thompson adding 12 points and Jarju 11, who also had 13 boards in a double-double effort.

Reading shot very efficiently on the day, making 47% of their 44 shots, and crucially converting 13 of their 16 free throws to help claim the victory.

Worcester were led by recent Player of the Week pick Nina Wallace, who finished on 18 points in the contest.
