NBL1 recap: 1 February 2025 - live streams, stats and more

Reflection on weekend's NBL action comes with a heavy heart after tragic news emerged on Sunday evening.

Four students at the University of Essex died in a road accident in the early hours of Saturday morning - Makyle Bayley, 22, Eva Darold-Tchikaya, 21, Anthony Hibbert, 24 and Daljang Wol, 22 all died at the scene.

Hibbert and Wol were described as 'outstanding members' of the Essex Rebels men's NBL basketball team, and the Rebels' game against Bradford was postponed.

We take a brief look back at Saturday's games below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

Recap

London Cavaliers (7-7) utilised 19 points off their bench from Juan Manning to beat Bristol Hurricanes (7-7) 79-73.

Manning's haul added to 17 points from AJ Roberts and 13 more from Justin Robinson, cancelling out a 20-point, 14-rebound double-double from Bristol's Daniel Edozie.

Forty points from Justin Hopkins put the brakes on Nottingham Hoods' (4-11) recent revival, with Reading Rockets (12-3) running out as 96-88 winners.

Nottingham had led 57-43 at the half before Hopkins led the Reading fightback, with Greg Skoric (19pts, 10reb) playing well in defeat.

Worthing Thunder (3-12) boosted their survival hopes as they beat Loughborough Riders (10-6) 74-70.

Veteran Zaire Taylor (23pts) led the Worthing scoring charts, closely followed by Jonathan Lashley (21pts) and Elijah Maynard (20pts), with the Riders dropping another clash against a bottom-three side to further dent their top-four aspirations.

Hemel Storm (13-0) stayed perfect to end the weekend, but only just, winning 92-88 against a tenacious City of Birmingham Rockets (6-10).

Trailing by as many as 19 points during the fourth quarter, the Rockets went on a late tear to give the league leaders a fright before running out time to complete the come back.

Hemel's Matt Ellis (25pts, 12reb) and CoB's Leon Henry (22pts) were the standout performers in that one.
