NBL1 recap: 15/16 February 2025 - live streams, stats and more

Hemel's quest to claim the D1M regular-season title took a huge step forward after another exciting weekend of D1M action.

A pair of Storm wins against Nottingham and London Cavaliers, plus a narrow defeat for their nearest challengers Reading, means Hemel's cushion at the top continues to grow as they're now just eight games away from perfection.

We take a look at all the action below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

City of Birmingham Rockets (6-12) 72-80 Bristol Hurricanes (9-7)

City of Birmingham Rockets' playoff ambitions took another hit as they slid to an 80-72 home loss against Bristol Hurricanes.

The hosts looked to be well set as they led 38-31 at the half, but a 26-15 third frame proved to be their undoing as their advantage became a deficit they'd never recover from by the start of the fourth quarter.

In a game of what might have been for the Rockets, Lucas McGregor top scored off the bench with 18 points as Martyn Gayle and Samuel Toluwase both added 13 more.

The Hurricanes can be pleased with the grit they displayed to seal the comeback win, further cementing their position as a part of the league's top eight.

Vilmantas Dilys (21pts, 7reb, 5ast) continued his rich vein of form to lead the way for the visitors, with fellow forward Daniel Edozie (18pts, 13reb) providing his usual double-double.

Both teams now head into tricky ties next weekend, with Bristol hosting top-four chasing Derby and CoB heading all the way to Newcastle.

Elsewhere this weekend

Nottingham Hoods (4-13) gave leaders Hemel Storm (16-0) a scare before eventually going down to a 102-92 defeat.

Up by double-digits in the first half before Storm came back into things, the Hoods still poked their noses ahead early in the fourth to put the leaders on upset alert.

An 80-79 Nottingham lead quickly became a 92-82 Hemel advantage, however, with the 13-2 burst giving Coach Clark's side the cushion needed to see the game out.

Veron Eze (19pts) top-scored off the Hemel bench as John Murdock Jr (22pts, 10ast) had a double-double for the Hoods.

Essex Rebels (8-7) returned to action with an emotional 100-69 victory against Newcastle Knights (5-10).

In the memorial game day to mark the recent passing of four students, the Rebels coasted to success behind 19 points on five made triples from Connor Nelson.

Derby Trailblazers (10-6) got back to winning ways with a much-needed 82-64 W against Loughborough Riders (11-7).

The Trailblazers did the double over their neighbours for the season thanks to a 12-point, 10-assist double-double from Kyle Jimenez, cancelling out Justin Hedley's 30-point outing for the Riders.

Milton Keynes Breakers (10-6) won the big game of the weekend as they put a sizable dent in Reading Rockets' (13-4) title challenge, with a 90-89 final score.

With Jordan Spencer making his return to the club, the former Cup Final MVP dropped 17 points as part of an exciting come-from-behind 33-26 final quarter, supporting Nate Robinson's team-high 19.

Victor Olarerin's 30 points wouldn't be enough for the Rockets as they fell further behind leaders Hemel.

It was a weekend to forget for Newcastle as they followed up Saturday's loss to Essex with an 85-84 defeat against Worthing Thunder (4-13).

Elijah Maynard's (23pts) triple with 12 seconds to go proved to be the dagger for the hosts, ensuring Hafeez Abdul (30pts) wouldn't enjoy a happy return to his former club despite a game-high score for the Knights.

Hemel brought the curtain down on the weekend's action with another win, this time seeing off London Cavaliers (7-9) 80-69.

Matt Ellis (25pts, 10reb) continued his fine season alongside 14 assists from Sam Newman, with A.J Roberts (14pts, 11reb) providing the pick of the stat lines for the Cavs.
