NBL1 recap: 25/26 January 2025 - live streams, stats and more

D1M continues to provide twists and turns aplenty, with another thrilling weekend of action in the books.

A pair of wins for Bradford and one for Nottingham have provided plenty of spice to the ongoing relegation battle, while the title battle is now a two-horse race between Reading and Hemel.

We take a look back at all the action below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

Reading Rockets (11-3) 105-92 Derby Trailblazers (9-5)

Derby's slim hopes of defending their D1M regular-season title were all but extinguished yesterday following a 105-92 loss in Reading.

Up by four heading into the fourth quarter, Reading shut the door on any potential Derby come back with a 31-22 final frame despite the visitors leading briefly with seven minutes to go.

Reading guard Mitch Clarke poured in a mighty 39 points to go with seven assists and five boards, providing more than enough firepower to keep the Rockets hot on the heels of leaders Hemel.

Victor Olarerin's 29 points were also a big boost for the hosts, with Raheem May-Thompson's 18 points a team-high for Derby.

The visitors did plenty right in the game, tying the rebound battle, finishing two assists short of their opponents (20-18) and shooting 45% from the field, but they still couldn't keep up with Reading's offence. Shooting 51% themselves, including 67% from inside the arc, it was no surprise to see the Rockets pass the century mark in the end.

Reading's path to the top is still a tricky one as Hemel stayed perfect this weekend. Beating Storm in Hemel next month to claim the head-to-head between the sides is a must, then hoping the reigning playoff champs drop points elsewhere is their only hope.

For Derby though, they're now all but consigned to a battle for the top four, and playoff seedings, come the end of the regular season.

The Rockets travel to resurgent Nottingham Hoods next weekend, whilst the Trailblazers can still do Reading a favour as they host Hemel in two weeks' time.

Elsewhere this weekend

Milton Keynes Breakers (8-6) had no problem picking up their eighth win of the campaign as they saw off City of Birmingham Rockets (6-9) 105-66.

Reigning Player of the Week Adrian Scarborough provided MK with a 29-point, 15-rebound double-double in the win, with K.J. Johnson (21pts, 9ast, 7reb) moving towards triple-double territory.

Loughborough Riders (10-5) split their double-header weekend, beginning it with a 107-99 double OT win against London Cavaliers (6-7).

With 10 minutes of extra basketball there were plenty of standout stat lines, with Victor Ndoukou (33pts, 7reb) and Edward Onyia (6pts, 13reb) getting it done for Loughborough and Juan Manning (24pts, 6/8 3pt) leading the way for the Cavs.

Bradford Dragons (3-11) are back in the fight for survival after a pair of wins, pulling Newcastle Knights (4-8) into the mix at the bottom following a 92-84 victory.

All five of Bradford's starters scored 13 points or more, led by 21 from Jordan Whelan, cancelling out a game-high 24 points from Newcastle's Ronald Blain.

Hemel Storm (12-0) just keep on trucking, beating Worthing Thunder (2-12) 83-75 for the first of two wins this weekend.

Fighting hard in the top vs bottom clash, Worthing fought back from as many as 14 points behind to lead in the third quarter before letting the game slip away late. Darien Nelson-Henry's 20-point, 14-rebound double-double powered the hosts as Worthing enjoyed a 17/10 double-double from Elijah Maynard.

Bradford made it an unlikely two in a row yesterday as they romped to a 95-83 success against Loughborough, with Justin Williams (27pts) playing the hero this time.

Nottingham Hoods (4-10) spoiled City of Birmingham Rockets'party at the Utilita Arena, picking up their second one-point win in a row with a 68-67 final score.

Seventeen points apiece from Landon Taliaferro and John Murdock Jr helped Nottingham to become this weekend's only road winner, and their resurgence is an important one considering Bradford's uptick in form.

The weekend closed with Essex Rebels (7-7) suffering the fate of many others this season as they were the latest team to dip out against Hemel, going down 95-83.

Tied for much of the first 10 minutes, Hemel would then go through the gears to build a lead that would max out at 23 points before a late Essex fight back to narrow the gap.

Trent Monkman, Tra' Michael Moton and Darien Nelson-Henry would all close on 17 points for the hosts, leaving Matt Ellis to top score with 20.
