Bradford suffered a tough road loss against top-four chasing Milton Keynes Breakers, going down 92-85.
Needing a vital win to keep themselves away from a bottom-two finish, the Dragons twice battled back from double-digit deficits, including tying the game up at 79-79 with just over five minutes remaining, before slipping to defeat.
With fellow strugglers Nottingham and London also winning, it was a double blow for the Yorkshire side, as the Breakers continued their push up the standings at the Dragons' expense.
Taking the opening frame 27-15 set the hosts on their way, but Bradford refused to roll over, a continued theme in the contest, as they battled back to trail by just six at the half.
Justin Williams (32pts, 5reb, 5ast) would provide the production needed for the Dragons' to keep themselves in the contest, including the late hope from tying the game up, only for MK's Adrian Scarborough (22pts, 12reb), Jordan Spencer (18pts, 6reb, 6ast) and Kai Walker (16pts, 9reb, 7ast) to get their side over the line.
Bradford's future now hangs on a tiebreaker with teams above, potentially against last day opponents London Cavaliers, though the Dragons will need to win both of their remaining games and hope those above them finish winless.
The Breakers now head into a midweek contest with Loughborough, an important tilt in the race for fourth, before finishing up their own schedule next weekend.

Bristol Hurricanes' (9-14) season is coming unravelled at the worst possible time, adding another loss to their current streak as they went down 85-83. against Loughborough Riders (13-9).
Loughborough's Victor Ndoukou (20pts, 8reb, 7ast) and Bristol's Denzel Ubiaro (20pts, 8reb, 3ast) enjoyed a great battle, with the visitors twice fighting back from 15-point deficits before coming out on the wrong end of a late scramble over the game's final three and a half minutes.
Defeat made it seven in a row for the Hurricanes, though three of their last five games have been settled for four points or less.
Nottingham Hoods (8-15) can almost breathe easy as they beat London Cavaliers (8-14) 85-81.
Jun Murdock Jr. (26pts, 6ast), Landon Taliaferro (21pts, 9reb, 5ast) and Greg Skoric (13pts, 26reb) produced some outlandish stat lines to fend off a late charge from the Cavs, who enjoyed a game-high 28 points from Juan Manning.
Though they wouldn't know it until Reading lost on Sunday, Hemel Storm (19-4) secured top spot with a 73-68 victory against Newcastle Knights (8-14), holding the visitors to just four final quarter points in the narrow win.
A 24-point, 13-rebound double-double from Hafeez Abdul kept Newcastle in contention, with Matt Ellis (19pts, 14reb) leading a balanced Hemel offence in reply.
Worthing Thunder's (6-17) spot in the bottom two was confirmed with a tough 90-85 road loss against Derby Trailblazers (16-7).
Leading for a good chunk of the first half, a 25-19 third saw Worthing's advantage erased as Derby moved into a lead they'd never let slip. Malcolm Smith (22pts) led DTB in scoring ahead of a pair of double-doubles from Jai Pathmarajah (15pts, 12reb, 7ast) and Rob Marsden (15pts, 12reb), as Bode Adeluola (32pts) and Elijah Maynard (24pts) tried in vain to keep Worthing from slipping to the loss.
Essex Rebels (14-9) showed their worth ahead of the impending playoffs with an 89-81 road win against Reading Rockets (17-6).
A Luke Busumbru masterclass saw the former Solent man drop 35 points to go with eight assists for the Rebels, overcoming 29 points from Reading's Justin Hopkins in the process.
The weekend ended with a shock loss for Hemel, who marked their title celebrations with a 100-93 defeat against London Cavaliers.
The Cavs needed a period of OT to get the result the needed, with a late lay-up from Matthew Bryan-Amaning (24pts, 18reb) pushing the game to an extra frame for the hosts.
Darien Nelson-Henry (21pts, 10reb) was the standout for Storm, who endured a rare off day despite securing top spot.
