NBL1 recap: 8/9 March 2025 - live streams, stats and more

The top two suffered rare setbacks as the race for the NBL1 title heats up.

Plus, the reigning regular-season champions Derby Trailblazers enjoyed a perfect double-winning weekend.

We take a look at all the weekend's match-ups below, with links to live stats at the bottom of the page.

Derby Trailblazers (12-6) 97-83 Reading Rockets (15-4)

After announcing the departure of David Simental last week, Derby Trailblazers had the perfect response by knocking off second-placed Reading Rockets 97-83.

The Trailblazers romped to victory with 50% shooting from the field, as an electrifying start saw Kyle Henderson’s men lead 34-18 after the first quarter before getting pegged back.

Derby were always comfortable, and a 23-13 fourth period put the game beyond doubt.

Mo Walker was exceptional - the Canadian scored 25 points and 11 rebounds, supported by Jonas Dietreich’s 21.

Mitch Clarke posted an impressive double-double of 28 points and 10 assists for Reading, going a deadly 8/12 from deep, but it wasn’t enough.

Elsewhere this weekend

Derby’s perfect weekend started with an 89-74 win away at Bradford Dragons (5-13). Mo Walker completed his solid weekend’s work, going 10/15 from the field for a double-double of 23 points and 17 rebounds.

Despite the setback on Sunday at Derby, Reading deservedly breezed past Bristol Hurricanes (9-11) 80-63. Mitch Clarke was sensational again, scoring 21 points and dishing six assists for Reading.

Hemel Storm (17-2) suffered only their second slip-up, losing 81-76 to Essex Rebels (11-8) in Colchester on Sunday. Joe Hart hit four three-pointers on his way to 20 points to lead the Rebels, who breathe new life into their top four goals.

Before conquering the Storm, Essex suffered heartbreak the day before, losing 86-84 to the City of Birmingham Rockets (8-13). Lucas McGregor led the Rockets with 18 points as they moved into the playoff spots.

Towards the tail-end of the standings, Worthing Thunder (4-16) grabbed a vital win as 28 points and five three-pointers from Malachi Boakye-Yiadom secured a valuable 91-85 victory over the London Cavaliers (7-10).

Both Justin Robinson and Juan Manning had 13 to lead London who find themselves in a battle for the eighth and final post-season spot, having slipped to ninth.

Despite Thunder’s win in the capital, they stay at the bottom of the standings, as Nottingham Hoods’ (6-13) mixed weekend saw them move out of the bottom two.

They battled but eventually lost 87-80 away to Newcastle Knights (6-12), for whom Hafeez Abdul hit 23, on Saturday before stunning top-four hopefuls Milton Keynes Breakers (12-8) 76-72 24 hours later at the Motorpoint Arena with Greg Skoric dropping 31 to lead them home.

Elijah Maynard dropped 24 points for Worthing against London Cavaliers
