For the last time in 2024/25, the D1M Player and Team of the Week picks are in.

With just two games to chose from next weekend, the most recent quarter-finals provided one last batch of selections, with Hemel, Derby, Reading and Milton Keynes all booking a spot in the next round.

How it works

  • Efficiency
  • Stats
  • Team and opposition strength
  • Periods of influence in the game
  • Being on a winning team (exceptional performances from players on losing teams will be considered for TOTW)

Other players will also receive a shout out as honourable mentions at the bottom of the piece.

The Team of the Week

PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Mitch Clarke – Reading Rockets, guard

27pts/3reb/5ast/27eff

No player scored more points than Reading guard Clarke this past weekend, with the Australian more than doing his bit in the 94-74 victory over Essex.

He netted five triples from his nine attempts, as many as the Essex starters managed between them, and more than half of his team's total over the course of the contest (8).

His long-range antics helped fuel what would be a game-high points total, with five assists and a trio of assists all adding to his value.

Overall the Reading man made great decisions with the ball, hitting 10/16 (62%) from the field that included 5/7 from two-point range.

Kai Walker – Milton Keynes Breakers, forward

16pts/14reb/23eff

It's probably fair to say that without Walker's output against Loughborough, the Breakers wouldn't be in the Playoff semi-finals.

Narrow 71-68 winners, Walker stepped to the fore on a day when the Breakers' regular leaders struggled to get going.

As the trio of Adrian Scarborough (4/10 FGs), Jordan Spencer (3/15 FGs) and Nate Robinson (2/8 FGs) combined to go 9/33 for the afternoon, Walker popped up with an efficient 16-point, 14-rebound double-double to push his team over the line.

Shooting 50% (7/14 FGs) that included a pair of triples, the former Solent man showed his value when needed, and put his team into the next round as a result.

Ty Nsangu – Reading Rockets, guard

12pts/15reb/3ast/25eff

Whilst team-mate Clarke went to work in other areas, Reading forward Nsangu did his bit on the glass, cleaning up with an efficient 12-point, 15-rebound double-double.

Missing just two shots from his seven attempts, all from around the basket, the KitKing Trophy MVP helped the hosts win the battle on the boards 43-29, and pulling down seven of his 15 rebounds on the offensive glass also gave the Rebels plenty to deal with inside.

Those offensive boards also helped Reading notch 18 second-chance points, beating the Rebels eight in that area, and providing another avenue to success on Sunday afternoon.

Rob Marsden – Derby Trailblazers, forward

14pts/11reb/5ast/31eff

Another forward going about his business, notching a highly-efficient double-double for Team of the Week inclusion is Derby's Marsden, who helped his side down London Cavaliers 86-68.

He went to work on Saturday, knocking down all but one of his seven shots whilst pulling down a game-high 11 rebounds, allowing the hosts to control the contest as they progressed to the next round.

It was an area that London looked to capitalise on, with 48 of their points coming in the paint across the tie, but Marsden helped keep Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Troy McIndoe in check across his 26:14 of hard-fought action.

Five assists also demonstrated additional value from the veteran forward, helping to draw the best from those around him on a great afternoon for the Trailblazers.

Derby's Rob Marsden (Nick Higgins)

Tra'Michael Moton – Hemel Storm, wing

23pts/2reb/3ast/2stl/24eff

The top scorer in Hemel's comfortable 95-78 victory over Bristol, Moton was dialled-in from range as he drained six triples to keep Storm on target to defend their playoff crown.

Providing nine points, a steal and a defensive rebound inside the first 4:03 of the game, the hosts would race out to a 29-17 lead after the first period, taking the wind out of the Hurricanes as they'd trail from almost tip to buzzer.

Moton sprinkled in a pair of rebounds with three assists and two steals, but it was his prowess from long-range, and a game-high points total, that gets him the nod this week.

Team basketball

Top four safely through

It was a relatively straightforward weekend for each of the top seeds, as Hemel, Derby, Reading and Milton Keynes all moved on.

With home advantage on their side, the top three sides won by an average margin of 18.3PPG, highlighting the importance of grabbing a top four seed to host in the opening round of the post-season.

In the always competitive #4 vs #5 contest, Loughborough nearly sprung the only upset of the round, coming up agonisingly close for a 71-68 defeat. Had Michael Joiner's last-gasp three point attempt found its mark, that could have been a different story, but instead the hosts made it four from four.

In a season that has provided some impressively competitive basketball from all 13 teams, it was an unexpectedly predictable opening to this year's Playoffs.
